My first from-my-own-photo cafe drawing! I really like it. 💖🖊️

Going to add watercolor tomorrow. 🎨

My mom, 4 weeks postop hip replacement surgery …. leaves her cane on the wheelbarrow full of the cuttings she did cleaning up her flower bed.

I hope to be as resilient as her when I’m 84.

Last June, I could walk about 2,000 steps (less than 1 mile/1.5 km) without my right foot getting painful. I started adding 500 steps (almost) every month.

Now, one year later, I can walk 8,000 steps/3.5 miles/5.5 km a day without pain in my foot.🎉

Gradually, then suddenly. 💜

One of the cool things about #nostr is being able to directly ask devs questions about their apps and get an answer without having to go on Twitter or Discord (though sometimes they send you to GitHub). 😉

New 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. 🧩 I really like the Cobble Hill puzzles because they come with a mini poster. 🎉

Mom doesn’t like sorting, so while I’m here, I do that part. Going from the box into edges, words, flowers, and everything-else piles. 💪

I’ve launched several successful projects on Kickstarter as I always preferred the fixed-funding/All-or-Nothing model to the take-their-money-even-though-you-didn’t-reach-the-finding-goal model as on IndieGoGo.

I just saw

has implemented a Kickstarter Bitcoin equivalent. 🧡

If the funding goal is met, the creator is paid. If not, supporters get their sats back.

Now I just need to concept a project and figure out pricing for rewards. 💜

March was going to be one of my plateau months where I keep the same daily step goal as the previous month.

But my right foot did really well in February, so I’m adding another 500 steps per day for a new goal of 6,500 steps/day, which is around 2.8 miles/4.5 km for me.

Mom’s garden has really appreciated the rain these past few days. 🌧️

The raised bed boxes have peas, lettuce, beets, and corn.

The little red concrete containers are herbs.

Here’s a copy of my proposal for the

Creator Contest v.1 ….

I will write and illustrate a book called “The Wandering Portal Emporium: Invitation and Introduction.”

Similar in concept to “Thieves’ World” created by Robert Asprin, “Wild Cards” by George R. R. Martin, or the Dungeons & Dragons Open Gaming license, this book defines a fantasy, shared-world setting.

Structured like a travel guide, I will create locations, characters, environment specifics, and information on how a creator can use this book as a reference if they wish to create related open source works.”

I made a PDF of sample writing and art, which you can find on this webpage, along with the other folks’ proposals: https://satosh.ee/blog/open-source-culture-creator-contest-1-voting/

Voting is now open and runs through March 31st - more info at the URL mentioned above.

Had a session with my fitness trainer yesterday. My right foot was still swollen, so we did arm work. A lot of arm work. 💪🦖

I’ve always preferred Do First, Share Later.

So much self-promotion advice to help creatives gain an audience so you can sell your art/writing/creative work revolves around social media and the need for constant content to feed the algorithms.

Putting in all that promotion work of what you plan to do (and the constant feedback on something that’s not in its final form) AND doing the actual creative work gets exhausting. Also, if the feedback is negative, you can question what you’re doing and possibly abandon something wonderful.

Yet another reason I love Nostr - so many posts are sharing what folks have Done. 💜

Anyone interested in a 21 day art project?

This art challenge is from the folks who do the yearly 100 Day Project and starts on Sept. 17th - https://the100dayproject.substack.com/p/the21dayproject-next-steps

I’ve reached the point on my 24” x 30” canvas that I’m getting fearful of ‘messing it up’ (because IRL doesn’t have that handy multiple Undo function of digital art), so I’m going to try and do something daily as part of this 21 Day Project to make sure my #mountainroadartwork gets finished.

You could do something new, or use this as a way to finish something that’s fallen by the wayside.

I’ve been on nostr for 1 year. Seems shorter. A lot has changed, but the core things are the same: I am my own algorithm and if folks find value in what I note, they can let me know with value, and I can do the same for them - something that doesn’t exist in any other social medium. 👍💜🫂

I have now, for the first time, completed a sketchbook!!! 🎉

It is such a joy to flip through it and see the #proofofwork of my daily sketches over the past 2.5 months.

I thought about stopping here. Because the end of a book is closure. Because it would be nice not to feel obligated to do one every day. Because there are other art things I want to focus on.

I thought about continuing to a new 4” x 4” sketchbook. Because Mom has more flowers I want to draw and know the names of. Because I love looking back at the accumulated drawings. Because I thought of a theme for July’s drawings.

Valid reasons on both sides.

Going to keep going for now. 👍

Misty mountain morning.

Slowly increasing my range. Today took a trail much higher than the road I usually walk. See the little white sign lower left? If you zoom in, there’s a bench to the left and a bit up from the sign, at the bend of the road. That’s as far as I made it a week ago when I first arrived here. Go Me! 😁
