Day 4 of ?

From memory.

I like where I am with the 1A.1 Topiary practice card, so moving on to a new one tomorrow.

Straight lines are much better, undulating lines still need work, so I’ll stay on the first Hand-Eye Coordination practice card for another day or two.

Keeping practice time to 10 minutes.

#drawing #practice #dailyhabit #artstr #daribodrawing https://i.nostr.build/sb8mtjuD3AWjKY5p.jpg

Day 3 of ?

Used the full 10 minutes on the loops line from Hand-Eye Coordination practice card. Much more difficult than I thought it would be. 😳

Also, much more difficult writing left to right, even though it’s still my dominant hand. 🤔

Found myself really tighten up on my pen grip…. and somehow created an ache in my forearm?!

Drawing is not for the weak.

#drawing #practice #dailyhabit #artstr #daribodrawing https://i.nostr.build/bBLfjSkC8khkjLMJ.jpg https://i.nostr.build/7K1eD6yqHF3ISUnM.jpg

Day 2 of ?

5 minutes each practice card. Time enough to accomplish something and not get bored with the drill. Win-win. 👍👍

#drawing #practice #dailyhabit #artstr #daribodrawing https://i.nostr.build/Rl0H7lt4E6Cy1BZv.jpg

Finally made time print out and organize the ebooks and practice cards I bought from Daribodrawing - https://m.youtube.com/@daribodrawing

I know practice drills are extremely useful; I just find them extremely boring. 🥱

So, with the intention of a low effort habit I will do every day, I’m going for 5 minutes with her Hand-Eye coordination practice card with a 5 minute reward of …. A much more interesting practice card. Starting out with Topiary because I really like how these guys look when fully drawn.

Day 1 of ?

I have now, for the first time, completed a sketchbook!!! 🎉

It is such a joy to flip through it and see the #proofofwork of my daily sketches over the past 2.5 months.

I thought about stopping here. Because the end of a book is closure. Because it would be nice not to feel obligated to do one every day. Because there are other art things I want to focus on.

I thought about continuing to a new 4” x 4” sketchbook. Because Mom has more flowers I want to draw and know the names of. Because I love looking back at the accumulated drawings. Because I thought of a theme for July’s drawings.

Valid reasons on both sides.

Going to keep going for now. 👍

And that’s a wrap for my May little doodle houses. ✍️🏡

Still going to do daily drawings in my 4” x 4” sketchbook, just with a new theme - if you have an idea, please let me know. ❓❓❓ #asknostr

Little doodle house floating away.

In the many years I’ve been in my house, never had water spread across the patio all the way to the back door. Until today.

It stopped raining and 95% of the standing water had a chance to sink into the ground. Very thankful for that, as the thunder of the next storm just started. 😑

This grew a bit as I worked on it. 🏠

Still enjoying the small size, though I think my lines may be a bit more wobbly because of it; I’ll be focused on drawing and suddenly realize my hand isn’t supported any more.

I’ve had a “little doodle house“ project a few times, and it’s always fun playing with how to represent real materials (wood, brick, tile, etc.) …. Or not at all.

I love Johanna Basford’s work and her Small Victories coloring book is a great place for inspiration for this month.

I had a book on how to draw Celtic knots like this triquetra - it involved graph paper. This is not that knot.

Oddly, I drew the top one first and got it right. Messed up the second one … but this is just a daily sketch and the fact I did a drawing today means I didn’t mess up at all. 👍

Toy Jeep I gave Boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. He had a beautiful Wrangler for several years until he was in an accident - cost more to fix the poor thing than it was worth. 🪦.

My mom did cane-based stained glass for many years. Several windows in the house I grew up in were her pieces. Later on, she would go to garage sales and thrift store to find old lamp bases and make stained glass shades for them. This is one of those lamps.
