Bitcoin from a Stoic Perspective by

"Bitcoin (a 21st century digital currency), and Stoicism (an ancient strain of philosophy which dates back thousands of years) surprisingly - or perhaps unsurprisingly - have a lot in common. What unifies these two subjects is not only an underlying ethos of work, discipline and self-responsibility, but also reliance on the laws of nature to provide the framework on top of which we can realize - both in the sense of understanding and manifesting - reality."

"Timeout" by

"Timeout" is a multimedia artwork completed by the artist as the winning proposal for the Open Source Culture Creator Contest #1. Here's what the author had to say about it:

"The animation (in the .mp4 file) was created from approximately 115 pics (lasting less than 20 seconds) that were taken in quick succession as I physically shuffled paper objects around a blank page of an open sketchbook. The art itself was created from a few colored construction paper scraps, the ink of a black sharpie pen, some scotch tape and a few choice subjects from my kids long neglected crayon set.  The music was recorded in my home studio. I play the drums, bass, synthesizer and guitar on this short piece. I also recorded the sounds of a household timer being wound and ringing out..." The Basics of Yoga AKA The Beginner's Guide to the Human Experience by

is a multimedia artwork completed by the artist as the winning proposal for the Open Source Culture Creator Contest #1.

I also recorded the sounds of a household timer being wound and ringing out...

But let's be honest, the most important part of this project isn't really about the art at all. It's about the real money (paid in BTC) that a successful sleuth can earn by uncovering the hidden message inside of it!

As promised, half of the BTC I receive for the completion of this work will be shared with the first person to crack the encryption and unlock the secrets found herein!**

That's hella sats! 56,322 to be exact... and they're all up for grabs.

Here's the catch: This opportunity is only good for 21 days. May 21st, 2025 is the official deadline for submitting your answers and winning the prize, so don't wait too long!

*Heads up: Everything needed to solve the encryption is within the video alone. Still, any code-breakers working on a solve may appreciate the supplementary files included here (.mp3 and .jpg), as they may also hold clues to this quirky puzzle.

**If you think you've figured it out, reach out to me, nostr:npub1v79rprjecf8wrv6zkrlf400klha9mnxrpt4jwkjn0c0hlgrqn77qvfefej, directly on Nostr. Tag me along with your answers and I'll let you know if you've won.

Finally, you should know that over the next couple of weeks, I'll be giving out clues to listeners live on the air! Tune-in to The Coastal Underground, Tuesdays from 4-6pm Pacific time, streaming @ http://www.humboldthotair.org. You can also follow me on Nostr for updates and helpful hints!

I hope to see you there."  KN6ZZV Micah C. Miracle

Tao Te Ching by Laozi

"The Tao that can be trodden is not the enduring and unchanging Tao. The name that can be named is not the enduring and unchanging name."

Tao Te Ching (or the Tao and its Characteristics) is an iconic Chinese text and the foundation work for the emergence of Taoism. The author(s) and the time of writing has been debated, but it is generally attributed to the sage Laozi (also romanized as Lao Tse) and oldest portions of the text are said to originate from 4th century BC.

This version has been translated by James Legge and has been sourced via Project Gutenberg.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

"It is high time for thee to understand the true nature both of the world, whereof thou art a part; and of that Lord and Governor of the world, from whom, as a channel from the spring, thou thyself didst flow: and that there is but a certain limit of time appointed unto thee, which if thou shalt not make use of to calm and allay the many distempers of thy soul, it will pass away and thou with it, and never after return."

Perhaps the most iconic work of Stoic philosophy, "Meditations" was written by Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, Roman emperor from 161 to 180 AD. It is believed that his work was never meant to be published, but only to serve as notes and reminders to himself about the nature of man, his responsibilities, his trials and tribulations.

This version has been translated by J. Boulton and David Widger and has been sourced via Project Gutenberg.

Open Source Culture represents the simple idea that ideas are free. That information yearns to be free. We acknowledge that copyright laws are unsuitable for a world that’s highly digitized; where content and information are, and should be, abundant and readily available for anyone.

The goal of the Open Source Culture initiative is to support and facilitate the creation, distribution and remixing/re-using/re-imagining of any artform that can be stored and distributed in a digital manner (i.e. books, essays, music, photos, code, video, etc.) without copyright restrictions.

The Open Source Culture Fund will be used to commission new artworks to be created and released into the public domain.

This will be done in three ways:

1. Through direct, private arrangements between Satoshee Strategy and artists
2. Through public contests in which artists can submit offers as to what they would be willing to create for the public domain for a preset amount of BTC
3. Through zaps to users on the nostr network, who create and/or distribute Public Domain or Creative Commons (CC-BY) licensed content with the hashtag #opensourceculture
