Thinking I'm going to be changing to a different account name. Same server, but a different account name. I've long used my name on various accounts and my own website but with things as they are in the US I'm taking steps to reduce the most obvious exposure and easy access to my identity.

I've felt very conflicted on this. On the one hand, I've always been open about my activism and beliefs online and in my community. But having my name hard-coded as the actual account name that I can't easily change seems like an unnecessary risk given where things are in the US and where they seem to be headed. What risk is acceptable?

That said, I have no illusions about being anonymous. That's not my intent. I've been publishing on the internet for nearly 30 years. I still have a blog that I intend to keep. But I have been taking measures to gradually scrub my name, location, etc from the most obvious places just as an added layer of obfuscation.

🤷🏾‍♂️

100% this. But also as it pointed out in the video, the United States is not a #democracy, is not democratic, it is not governed by the people. This is by design, and this has been the case for the entirety of the nation's existence I've mentioned Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States several times recently as I'm reading through it, and I will continue to recommend it. It makes pretty clear, what is also pointed out in this linked essay, the details are there decade after decade after decade. The political process of the United States, the two party system, this is not democracy, it is a fucking sham and always has been. Is a system designed by the wealthy for the wealthy.

"The presidential election in 2024 may be the last free vote taken in the United States. Dictatorships only hold elections with predetermined outcomes or do not hold them at all. Trump is no exception."

Dwayne Monroe will return to the show to discuss some of the programs ICE uses to monitor cell phone data of entire neighborhoods without a warrant.

Discussed: -404 Media's recent article "Inside ICE’s Tool to Monitor Phones in Entire Neighborhoods" -Commercial location data, in this case acquired from hundreds of millions of phones via a company called Penlink, can be queried without a warrant

Rapid Response Networks in the Twin Cities: A Guide to an Updated Model

The rapid response networks people organized to defend their communities against federal agents seeking to kidnap, brutalize, and terrorize them have undergone a whirlwind evolution to keep up with ever-shifting Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactics. Over the past month and a half of occupation, volunteers in the Twin Cities have continuously updated their rapid response. #Resist #Fascism #ICE

Are #Apple enthusiasts that post about Apple's latest product release also doing free Apple Marketing?

Yes, yes they are.

Connecting the dots (and this isn't that hard), is voluntarily doing marketing for a company who directly supports a fascist regime for favors bootlicking by extension?

Why the fuck would anyone opposed to #fascism and #ICE murders volunteer to do free marketing for a company and CEO (FUCK YOU TIM COOK) engaged in active fascist bootlicking?

Get off your knees.

FUCK TIM COOK. FUCK APPLE. And fuck the rest of these fucking fascist fucks.

They're allegiance to fascism and violence is the real profanity.

American tech oligarchs and their companies need to be shunned (shunning is just the beginning of what they deserve).

Shun these fuckers, their products, their companies. No bullshit excuse "they're just doing what they need to do."

FUCK cooperation with #fascism. FUCK #Nazi bootlickers.

Daily steps to building our #resistance into a #GeneralStrike

In the face of extreme daily brutality the folks of Minnesota have been giving the rest of the US a demonstration of how we resist rising #fascism in the US. Anyone can begin taking action to build their personal and community capacity for resistance today. Depending on your location and context, only some of these will apply. Do what you can, do what makes sense in your current context...

This and also, delete your #Amazon account.

Why in the ever-living-fuck is anyone still giving money to any #US #bigtech #fascist boot-licker unless there is no other choice for something that is essential? Don't feed the fascist machine.

Rather than talk about the latest corporate streaming tv show you enjoyed, share about your boycott of those companies. Give your money to #PBS instead. Use your library.

The Justice Department isn't now openly saying that isn't going to release the Epstein files.

Folks, are we surprised? COME. THE. FUCK. ON.

If this is fascism as we know it is, we should also understand that they do not intend to backdown. They do not intend to obey or respect the rule of law.

#FASCISM. They will do what they want. The pretense of #democracy, law, etc no longer applies. NEW FUCKING RULES. Elections? Lol. Stop pretending because they no longer are.

#GeneralStrike

Agreed 100%. ICE is not the problem. The problem is the latent #fascism that was always lurking behind the facade of democracy.

#Democracy in the US has always been a fucking lie, an illusion put in front of the brutal #capitalist machine built on #genocide, #landtheft, #colonialism and subjugation. The white middle class insistence that democracy was real is an expression of privilege and #whitesupremacy.

250 years of #shame, that is the #US. I encourage you to read Zinn's People's History.

Agreed with the erosion of the #Apple ecosystem. I'm not "almost equally happy" running GNU/Linux, I love using it in a way that previously enjoyed macOS & iPadOS. I don't feel the hardware constraints Rui mentions on a 2018 Thinkpad or on my 2012 Mac Mini. Daily html/css coding, page layout with Scribus, vector work w/ Inkscape are all very fast. Mint Cinnamon on the Thinkpad, Trisquel with KDE Plasma on the Mini is perfectly responsive.

Hopefully you've already switched your email away from Gmail. If not, you can get a free account at Proton or Tuta! Both offer options for fully encrypted email. Given growing fascism in the US why not switch? Both also offer affordable paid plans.

If you want to learn more about the details of email encryption check the video. Even if you don't understand all the details, you'll get a better sense of how it works.

Have the folks at

called for a General Strike yet? Are you supporting the May 2028 General Strike called by the UAW? Are your members organizing the community-based groundwork for a multi-day strike?

The one-day Saturday protests of 2025 will not be enough to stop #FASCISM. Will you call for middle of the week walkouts/strikes in 2026? Our #DirectAction #resistance needs to escalate in 2026. Households and neighborhoods need to save money and prepare now for disruption.

We should start a practice of sharing the steps we're taking to further our individual and community #resistance to the regime. What are our daily and weekly actions and plans? What is our shared, #OpenSource recipe for building our fight against #fascism. If we want a #GeneralStrike we have to prepare for it. How do we build #MutualAid and #Democracy in our communities? What orgs are we working with? What software tools are we using and how?

"As Trump Expands Imperial Aggression in Venezuela, Corporate Media Falls in Line

What we are witnessing is fascism unbound, armed with military force and insulated with media complicity.

I watched the January 3rd nightly coverage on CBS and NBC of the U.S. assault on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, and what I witnessed was not journalism but the choreography of propaganda."

2025 End of year personal computing check-in

I've written quite a bit over the past 11 months about flipping the table on my personal computing. All very unexpected but what a relief to have done it. And also very satisfying to know that my computing now fits my personal ethics in a way that it did not before.

You're opposed to #fascism, okay, but what are you FOR?

How do you feel about #capitalism? #Racism? Global #inequality and the #ClimateEmergency? #Genocide? #NeoLiberalism?

We're at a pivotal moment in the US where we have to fight back fascism. Let's do that but what kind of world do we really want? This fight is now inevitable, do we want the end point to be a return to the "normal" of recent decades? I don't.

Let's fight for something better.

#democracy #socialism #liberation #justice

As we go deeper into #Fascism this is all going to get so much worse. That seems obvious but when I look around I see people still behaving as though nothing of significance has happened. Posting to Facebook, TikTok, etc with little caution. Using smart phones with little to no effort towards increased #privacy or #security.

They're coming for anyone that is not them. If you're not a fascist they'll come for you too. Eventually.

For you activist folk that still use Google services, get your shit off google and do it now. Don't store your files there and move your email to

If you can't make that effort you're not to be trusted. Look at the last item on the list in the linked article. Given the current fascist admin, it's clear your files are not safe, secure or private if stored on Google. Likely other US services too.

has a great post on #Apple behaving as the capitalist it is.

If you are a disgruntled Apple customer opposed to #fascism you have a choice to make. You can continue buying their products and services or you can stop. No one forces you to buy the latest, greatest iPhone, iPad or Mac. No one forces you to buy AppleTV+ or iCloud.

If you don't want to support a company happy to appease fascism make an effort to start reducing the money you give them.

TRY HARDER.

A lot of us having been using the word fascism or similar to describe what's going on in the US. We see the power that is being given to ICE, see link as one example. The admin is not hiding how it wants to use the military.

You may not think yourself a target yet but if you have publicly shared the "wrong" views you should assume that eventually, they'll get around to you.

Begin protecting your privacy now. Go to "extreme" measures.

If your favorite local hardware store started flying a Nazi flag would you shrug and go ahead and step through the door to purchase that garden hose you need? Many US companies and, relevant to this post, most of US big tech have all bent the knee to the Trump administration. Divided, we fall

"I gave up on the two party system decades ago when I realized that any pretense that the US was democratic was just that, pretense. That the underlying system was, in fact, stacked for capitalism against people. The crisis we see today is the continued unfolding of that reality but it's gotten far worse. But this was the logic of the system, the design of the system. It was predictable and should have been foreseen..."
