Mostro

The markets map on mostro.world shows the currencies moving through the Mostro 🧌 network.

Each point is a currency with orders in the period you choose, and its size reflects order volume. The routes connect each node with the currencies it has traded, so you can spot active markets at a glance.

All the figures are computed from public Nostr events. Explore the map and tell us: which currency would you like to see bigger? 👇

Your identity on Mostro 🧌 lives in 12 words, not in an account you can recover by email.

Without that backup, a lost phone or reinstall can cost you your active trades, your reputation, and your history. With it, you can restore everything on any compatible client.

One exception: orders made in full privacy mode can't be recovered, since there's no fixed key tying them to you.

Back it up before your first trade. How, in the graphic below.

#Bitcoin #Nostr #P2P #Mostro

Are your trades on Mostro 🧌 actually private? Yes.

All communication is end-to-end encrypted, with different keys for every operation so your exchanges can't be linked to each other. You can even trade in an advanced privacy mode where not even the node you're using can tell which operations are yours.

Node operators never get access to any personal information either way. + Info: https://mostro.network/

#Bitcoin #Nostr #Privacy #Mostro

Mostro 🧌 doesn't force one single way to be private.

You can trade in reputation mode, building a rating your counterparts can see, or in full private mode, where not even the node you're using can link your orders to each other. Same protocol, same encrypted chat, you choose how much you reveal.

Which mode fits how you trade?

#Bitcoin #Nostr #Privacy #Mostro

mostro.world reads the public Nostr events every Mostro 🧌 node already emits and turns them into real numbers: completed orders, volume, active currencies, open disputes.

bestiario computes and signs those reports, and your browser verifies that signature, that's proof of who published the numbers, not proof they're correct.

For that, run the open-source software yourself and reproduce the results.

On Mostro 🧌, nobody assigns your reputation. You earn it, one trade at a time.

Every completed order adds to a history that's yours, peer rated and impossible to fake with a KYC form or a paid badge.

That's what trust looks like when there's no company running the show.

Mostro 🧌 is a protocol, not an app or a company.

It defines how two people exchange Bitcoin for fiat using Lightning hold invoices and Nostr for communication. Anyone can run a node, anyone can build a client, and every node competes on its own fees and rules.

No single server to shut down. No central database to seize. The network keeps running as long as any node stays online.

That's what decentralization actually looks like in practice.

Why does exchanging bitcoin between two people require a company in the middle?

Mostro is the answer built in code.

A green protocol, with yellow glowing eyes and a lightning bolt on its chest, living on Nostr, settling on Lightning, asking nobody's permission to exist ⚡

Part monster. Part protocol. All Bitcoin.

Exchanging value with another person should be an act between those two people. Nothing more.

Without a third party recording who you are, where you're from, and what you do with your money.

On Mostro 🧌 that information doesn't exist because the protocol doesn't need it.

Every trade uses different keys. Communications travel encrypted through Nostr. Nodes have no access to personal data.

What isn't needed for the trade simply doesn't exist ⚡

How does Mostro work? 🧌

P2P trading in 4 steps:

1️⃣ Get a Lightning wallet Download any compatible wallet and load it with some sats.

2️⃣ Choose a Mostro client Use a mobile app or terminal client to connect to Mostro nodes.

3️⃣ Create or take an order Post a buy or sell order, or browse existing offers.

4️⃣ Trade peer-to-peer Sats are held via Lightning hold invoices for the minimum time necessary. When fiat payment is confirmed, sats are released instantly ⚡

When you make a trade on Mostro 🧌, you're not trusting a company.

You're trusting another person, with the protocol as the guarantee.

Sats stay in the seller's wallet through a hold invoice. When the seller confirms they received the fiat payment, the sats are transferred to the buyer ⚡

The code defines the rules. Nobody can change them mid-trade.

Trust is between people. The protocol is the referee.

Money has always been a trust relationship.

For centuries, others managed that trust: banks, governments, institutions. They decided who could participate and under what conditions.

Bitcoin changed who defines that trust. Mostro 🧌 changed how it's executed between people.

Two people. One trade. One protocol that coordinates. Nobody else in the middle ⚡

https://mostro.network

#Bitcoin #Cypherpunk #Nostr #P2P #Philosophy

In Mostro 🧌, a community it’s a set of people who share a currency, a context, and a basic trust between each other. Who have real reasons to exchange value.

When that community has its own node, exchange happens between people who know each other, with liquidity that stays inside, with an operator who understands the real context of their people.

Building community in Mostro isn't marketing. It's the infrastructure that makes the protocol make sense in real life ⚡

https://mostro.community

#Bitcoin #Community #Nostr #P2P #Mostro

Two questions about Mostro nodes 🧌

❓ Is there only one node or are there several?

There are several. Mostro is the protocol and each node is an independent implementation. Anyone can run their own, with their own fees, currencies and rules. If one node stops working, the others remain available ⚡

❓ Why do several nodes exist instead of just one?

Because decentralization is what makes the system resistant to censorship.

With multiple nodes operated by different people in different jurisdictions, there is no single point of failure. It also creates competition: better fees, better service, more options for users.

What happens if you want to cancel a trade on Mostro 🧌 before it's done?

There's cooperative cancellation.

If both parties agree to exit, the trade is cancelled cleanly. Sats return to the seller. Nobody loses anything.

For it to work, both sides have to confirm. One party can't cancel unilaterally without consequences.

That mechanism protects both sides of the trade ⚡

Every trade on Mostro 🧌 is an act of sovereignty.

Not because any manifesto says so. But because two people decided to exchange value on their own terms, without asking permission from any institution.

After every trade on Mostro 🧌, both parties can rate each other.

That rating stays in the operator's history and is visible to anyone before taking an offer.

That's how trust works in a real peer-to-peer system.

What happens if the Mostro 🧌 node you use goes down?

Your sats were never there.

In Mostro, funds live in your Lightning wallet⚡ throughout the entire trade. The node coordinates the exchange, but never holds custody of your funds.

If the node stops working, you can connect to another one and keep trading. The network doesn't depend on any particular node.

That's what truly decentralized infrastructure means.

https://mostro.network

#Bitcoin #Lightning #Nostr #P2P #Mostro

A Bitcoin community running its own Mostro 🧌 node changes how its members operate.

Trades happen between people who know each other, in local currency, with liquidity that stays inside the community.

It's not just technology. It's a decision about how you want your community's economy to work.

The active nodes in Cuba 🇨🇺, Spain 🇪🇸, Colombia 🇨🇴, Bolivia 🇧🇴, and Venezuela 🇻🇪 made that decision.

When will yours?

Mostro 🧌 uses Nostr to communicate. What is that?

Nostr is a decentralized messaging protocol. Nobody controls it. There's no central server that can censor it or shut it down.

When you buy or sell on Mostro, messages between you and your counterpart travel encrypted through Nostr. Nobody can read them. Nobody can block them ⚡

That's why Mostro doesn't need a central database or a company behind it. The protocol exists as long as people use it.

Curious about what #Mostro is and how to use it? 🤓

Mostro is a way to exchange #bitcoin in #LightningNetwork #p2p without KYC on #Nostr.

So far there are 2 Mostro clients being developed although we want to do more thanks to community collaborations. Take a look: https://github.com/MostroP2P

For now there is an exchange limit between 100 and 20,000 sats per trade.

You can try these 2 clients:

👉 Web client: https://mostro.bilthon.dev (https://github.com/MostroP2P/mostro-web). Privacy lover? Generate a new identity in each exchange! ;)

👉 CLI Client:

https://github.com/MostroP2P/mostro-cli

This one is focused on devs and to test the Mostro daemon, it has so far implemented more functionalities than the web client.

🔥 You can also install the Mostro daemon locally or on a VPS to have your own Mostro and then help decentralize it. All guides to do it at: https://github.com/MostroP2P/mostro
