Love re-watching this movie every few years. #filmstr #movie

Re-watched Now You See Me last night. Re-watching the second movie tonight, then all set for the new/3rd movie for New Year’s Eve. 🍿

Some of the Deleted Scenes were interesting: same scenes as in the final movie, but a different location or the set dressing was completely different.

Finished watching Romantics Anonymous, a Japanese/Korean show on Netflix. It’s more soft romance than comedy, and comes to a good, solid end with 2 heartfelt twists.

I had to look up info about the last scene because it felt like something obvious… which it is if you know current celebrity Korean and Japanese actors when they show up for cameos. 😅

Drew Struzan passed away. He created most of the movie posters for the films I watched for the first era of my life.

Rented The Boy and the Heron, Miyazaki’s latest film.

I intentionally didn’t look up anything about it. Starts slow, then gets a bit creepy, then full on Ghibli fantasy, and more info that wraps all the partial info you’ve been given into something that makes sense.

If you like Howl’s Moving Castle, I think you’ll like this one.

If you want the original Japanese with English subtitles, I know renting from Apple will work because that’s what I did.

Amazon looked like only the English dub, but not sure since I specifically wanted to hear the original voices.

When the $60 each hardcover books you’ve been watching for years are on sale for $20 each so you can buy 3 now for the price of 1 then. 😍

Quiet Friday night with pizza and an easy rewatch because brain tired.

Name the movie for a tiny zap. 🍿⚡️

Finished watching The Perfect Couple on Netflix yesterday. Meh. The murder reveal at the end made sense, but the little bit “after 6 months” was a very weird catchup interaction between two characters.

Since it was based on a book, I thought that last scene maybe made more sense if you’d read the original source … except maybe not, as the murderer in the limited TV series is different than in the book ?!

Today, I finally figured out why The Perfect Couple felt familiar in a way …. it’s like the 2.5 star version of the 5 star Knives Out (common girl amongst rich eccentric family).

So, IMHO, watch Knives Out instead of The Perfect Couple - you’ll save 4 hours and get a much better story and more interesting characters.

If you need a laugh and have 7 minutes, BOOM is an adorable animated short film:

Had a horrible headache today, so watched movies to avoid feeling it. I saw both of these via Netflix.

Safe House (2012) - A young CIA agent (Ryan Reynolds ) is tasked with looking after a fugitive (Denzel Washington) in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.

Liked it. Good pacing and the threat of the men after our guys is constant.

2 Guns (2013) - Two hardened criminals (Denzel Washington, Matt Wahlberg) get into trouble with the US border patrol after meeting with a Mexican drug lord, and then revelations start to unfold.

This likely showed up in Recommendations because I’d just finished a Denzel movie. Really enjoyed this one: good banter between the leads and lots of motives unfold along the way.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Studio Ghibli’s Howl’s Moving Castle. 🏰 This and Spirited Away are my favorites Ghibli movies. #filmstr #movies #studioghibli https://i.nostr.build/C2GWFpDM4I6eaPuX.jpg

Mom wanted to share a movie with me called “Hooked on Mozart” - I searched online and couldn’t find anything by that name, other than the music collection from 1981 (which I had on record at the time).

After talking with her and getting some plot details, we discovered the name of the movie is actually “Falling for Figaro.”

Fun little film. Also now a Family Story and still referred to as “Hooked on Mozart”. 😁

Just finished watching The Fall Guy. SO. MUCH. FUN!!!!!

If you like action movies, this works.

If you enjoy filmmaking, this has so many wonderful moments: crazy long one takes, visuals to specifically emphasize the dialog, movie quotes, fight scenes, and stunts.

And, of course, homages to the original Fall Guy TV show.

Directed by David Leitch, who was a stuntman/stunt coordinator/fight designer in his early days.

Watched The King’s Man the other night. It’s the third in the series, but the first chronologically as it shows the circumstances that establish the organization.

Really enjoyed it. Rasputin’s fight choreography is so fun. World War I moments and family moments and spy moments and action moments and a moment of tragedy that makes the poem read at the end of the movie even harder to hear.

You don’t need to have seen or know anything about the other Kingsman movies to enjoy this one. I haven’t seen the first one, and saw a highly edited safe-to-view-on-an-airplane version of the second.

If you liked the first two, you may not find this one as “good” or as “Kingsman.”

If you don’t like/didn’t want to see the first two, you may like this one.

More great #artstr content for this month’s discussions and contest.

For femme fatales in Neo Noir, I’d go with Rachel in Bladerunner and Luv in Bladerunner 2049.

Watched the movie Creator last night. The special effects are well integrated and the environments look great in the letterboxed format. The story didn’t do anything for me. I really enjoyed John David Washington in Tenet, but I think he had far less to work with in Creator. Recommended if you like environmental sci-fi design.

Watched Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny tonight on Disney+. Sooooo much better than I thought it would be. Felt like Raiders. Far better end than Crystal Skull. Eventually I’ll buy the complete series and keep the odd numbered, good movies. 😉
