🚦🧌 Semáforo is live: the public status page for all Mostro nodes available to operate, including the Mostro Nodes of the Community Program.

One look shows how each one is doing: green, yellow or red, with its track record building up over time.

How it works: ⚡ Every monitored node publishes a signed health event on Nostr, every minute by default. It covers its Lightning node, payouts, relays and database. 🔍 Your browser reads those events straight from the relays and verifies every signature itself. No backend, no tracking. ⛓️ Block height is also compared with public block explorers. A node that falls behind turns red.

A node that stops reporting turns red, never green.

One clarification: green means the node reports itself healthy and passes the independent checks. It is not a guarantee that a trade will succeed.

Mostro 🧌 is P2P, so it supports any currency and payment method as long as there's a counterparty willing to trade.

Each node decides which fiat currencies to enable, so check that yours supports the one you need before you trade. Don't see your currency? You can reach out to the admin of an unrestricted node, or run your own node with the Community Program.

Each point is a currency with orders in the period you choose, and its size reflects order volume. The routes connect each node with the currencies it has traded, so you can spot active markets at a glance.

Every reason to use Mostro 🧌 starts with a design decision.

🧌🕹️ Mostrix v0.3.6 is out!

The Mostro TUI client just got a solid upgrade from 0.3.5: privacy, chat UX, reputation, and solver tooling.

🕶️ Full-privacy trades: opt into full privacy when creating or taking orders. Follow-up trade DMs honor it too, for better unlinkability on sensitive trades.

⭐ Your reputation on the status bar: see your own rating live. It refreshes at startup and after trades, so you always know how the network sees you.

📋 Copy chat messages: select a range in My Trades, Disputes, Observer, and solver DMs, then copy. Optional OSC 52 fallback for SSH and remote terminals.

⌨️ Contextual command bars: keycap-style hints on My Trades, Disputes, and Observer, plus Ctrl+K Actions for dispute and Observer workflows. Built to stay usable even on small terminals (like 60x15).

🔔 Solver Telegram alerts: dispute solvers can get notified via mostro-watchdog when something needs attention.

🔧 Also: tighter privacy binding around NextTrade and range children, clearer solver key docs, and lots of small reliability fixes.

Your identity on Mostro 🧌 lives in 12 words, not in an account you can recover by email.

Without that backup, a lost phone or reinstall can cost you your active trades, your reputation, and your history. With it, you can restore everything on any compatible client.

One exception: orders made in full privacy mode can't be recovered, since there's no fixed key tying them to you.

Back it up before your first trade. How, in the graphic below.

🧌 Meet Serbero: our new AI dispute assistant, live on Mostro starting today!

🐺 What it is Serbero gets every dispute to your solvers fast, DMing them the moment one opens. It can also talk to both parties to find out what happened with the payment, helping them close the trade themselves when the facts are clear. Anything unclear or contested goes straight to a human solver with the full chat for context.

🔒 What it will never do ❌ Move funds, it's read-only, Mostro rejects any fund action it tries to send. ❌ Decide a dispute, it reports claims, never verdicts. A human solver always has the final word. ❌ Send generated text to a person, parties get human-written templates, solvers get the real conversation.

🌎 Starts in English by default, and automatically switches to Spanish or Portuguese once a party writes in one of them. Piloting with these 3 languages for now, more coming.

🧌 If Serbero ever goes down, Mostro and your solvers keep working exactly as before.

A Mostro 🧌 node doesn't need to serve the whole world to matter.

It just needs to serve the people around it, same language, same currency, same payment habits. That's what makes P2P trading actually usable for people who'd never touch a global exchange.

Small and local can be exactly the right size.

All communication is end-to-end encrypted, with different keys for every operation so your exchanges can't be linked to each other. You can even trade in an advanced privacy mode where not even the node you're using can tell which operations are yours.

Node operators never get access to any personal information either way. + Info: https://mostro.network/

Every step of a Mostro 🧌 trade runs against the clock, and each node sets its own times.

On the node currently active on mainnet, an order sits in the book for 23 hours before it expires if nobody takes it. Once taken, whoever goes first (invoice or hold invoice) has 15 minutes, miss it and the order reposts. The counterparty then has their own 15 minutes, miss that and it cancels instead.

Use instant payment methods, since once the hold invoice expires, Mostro can't step in anymore. + Info: https://mostro.network/

#Bitcoin #Lightning #P2P #Mostro

What stops your counterparty from scamming you on Mostro 🧌?

A hold invoice is the reason Mostro 🧌 can run escrow without ever touching your sats.

When you sell, your sats lock in your own wallet through this invoice, visible but untouchable, until the trade actually completes. If something goes wrong, they return to you automatically. If it goes right, they release the moment you confirm.

No custodian holding funds in between, just Lightning doing exactly what it was built to do.

🚨 Protocol v1 (gift-wrap) is removed. If your client is on an old version, update it now, orders and chat need protocol v2 (NIP-44) to work with this node.

✅ Makers can now cancel before paying the bond.

✅ Restoring a session now also returns your counterparty's trade pubkey.

⏱️ Bond invoices now expire on time, and makers get a clear deadline to pay theirs.

A trade on Mostro 🧌 runs on clear timers, not vibes.

If nobody takes your order within 24 hours, it expires. Once someone does, the buyer has 15 minutes to send an invoice, then the seller has 15 minutes to pay the hold invoice, miss either window and the order gets canceled. At the end, buyer and seller rate each other, building the reputation you carry into your next trade.

Structure, without a company running it.

🧌 The anti-abuse bond works like a rental deposit: you lock a small amount of sats before a trade, and you get every sat back if you complete it, cancel cooperatively, or a dispute clears you. You only lose it if a solver finds you acted in bad faith, or, on nodes that enable it, if you let your part of the deadline expire.

It's optional, each node decides whether to require it and sets its own amount and rules, all visible in your client before you trade.

The chat between buyer and seller on Mostro 🧌 runs client to client, end-to-end encrypted, using a shared key both sides generate together through ECDH cryptography.

That key is known only to the two of you, not even the Mostro node can read the conversation. Every new trade generates a new key, so privacy holds even if you trade with the same person again.

🧌 Mostro Node v0.18.7 is out!

🛡️ New payout safety rails: in-flight payouts are now capped per destination and node-wide, so one destination can't tie up the whole node's liquidity.

⏱️ Payout routes now bound their total timelock, not just the last hop, and user payout invoices are capped at 144 blocks instead of 432 — funds stay locked for less time.

🛠️ Operators can cancel pre-trade orders through the CancelOrder gRPC, with a new pretrade_only flag so a cancel never falls through into a dispute cancel by mistake.

🔧 Maintenance mode follow-ups: drain counters now count only in-flight payments, so draining a node actually finishes instead of waiting on already-settled orders.

🐛 Also fixed: admin cancel no longer trips on hold invoices LND already canceled, and the info event now advertises the correct hold window.

Opening a dispute on Mostro 🧌 puts a real person on the case, the admin of that node, or a solver they've assigned.

Both you and your counterparty get a unique token to confirm you're talking to the actual admin, not an impostor. The encrypted trade chat stays available as evidence, and you decide whether to share it to help resolve things faster.

Admins don't charge anything extra for handling a dispute.

A Mostro 🧌 trade moves through a clear sequence: you create an order, someone takes it, sats lock into a hold invoice, you confirm the fiat arrived, and the invoice settles.

Every step stays visible to both sides, and you can open a dispute at any point if your counterparty goes quiet.

🧌 Mostro Node v0.18.6 is out!

🛠️ Maintenance mode: node operators can now drain a node gracefully, existing orders keep settling while new order creation pauses, and clients can see when a node is in maintenance.

🥜 Progress on Cashu ecash escrow support, part of the ongoing integration.

🔒 Hardening around Lightning node identity changes and trade-key rotation.

🧌🕹️ Mostrix v0.3.0 is here!

The big theme in this release: get your account back on a new machine, after a wipe, or mid-trade, without losing your place.

🔑 Restore Session (Settings): pull your active orders and disputes back from Mostro. Messages and My Trades peer chat refill without restarting the app.

📝 Import seed words: paste your 12-word backup, local wipe, automatic restore. Safer key rotation with rollback if something goes wrong.

🔄 Trade index sync: if your trade keys drift from Mostro, Mostrix detects it and offers a one-click resync.

💬 Smarter chat after restore: peer chat history rebuilds from relay, and trade messages land on the correct timeline step.

🛡️ Copy your seed with C on the View Seed popup.

⚠️Update⚠️

We’re close to completing the node migration. Why has it taken so long? Because we need everyone with open orders to either complete or cancel them. Only once this happens can we switch over to the new Lightning node.

If you currently have an open order on Mostro, please complete or cancel it so we can resume normal operations as soon as possible.

That said, you can continue trading on Mostro, as there are currently 7 other community nodes operating at full capacity.

This is yet another demonstration of Mostro’s resilience. Our motto is:

From a single point of failure to multiple points of success.

🚨 Attention 🚨 The main Mostro node is currently undergoing migration. During this time, it will not be possible to create or take new orders.

Orders that are already in progress will not be affected and will continue to operate normally.

This interruption only affects the Mostro node that appears by default in the applications. All other Mostro nodes continue to operate normally.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are working to restore the service as soon as possible.

Heads up, Mostro users:

In the next few hours, we’ll be working on migrating the Lightning node used by the default Mostro instance:

82fa8cb978b43c79b2156585bac2c011176a21d2aead6d9f7c575c005be88390

During this process, that default Mostro instance may experience brief interruptions or temporary downtime. If it stops working for a short period, this migration is the reason.

This does not affect other Mostro instances.

Thanks for your patience while we keep improving Mostro’s infrastructure.

No KYC. No middlemen. Still P2P. ⚡

Connect your Lightning wallet to Mostro 🧌 with Nostr Wallet Connect and let it handle payments for you.

Set it up once, and Mostro requests each hold invoice and payment straight from your wallet automatically. Faster trades, same self-custody the whole time.

Why #Nostr? Nostr is a simple protocol: signed messages, published to relays, readable by anyone who wants to verify them.

Mostro 🧌 runs order details and buyer-seller chat on top of it, encrypted and tied to keys that only you hold. No company database storing your conversations, just signatures and relays passing data around.

Every Mostro 🧌 node sets its own fees, rules, and supported currencies.

That competition is what pushes each one to offer a better deal, since no single company decides what's fair for everyone. You get to pick the node that fits you, and that choice alone is a form of power most exchanges never give you.

🧌 MostriX v0.2.9 is out!

⚠️ You’ll now get a heads-up if the Lightning payout fails: Mostro retries on its own, and if retries run out you can paste a new invoice.

Every country pays differently, so Mostro 🧌 doesn't lock you into one option.

Bank transfer, cash, apps like Cash App, Venmo, or Wise, whatever moves fiat where you live. You pick what you accept when you create your order, and you can select more than one.

Mostro only handles the Bitcoin side through Lightning. The fiat leg is between you and your counterparty.

Mostro 🧌 is a protocol, not an app or a company.

It defines how two people exchange Bitcoin for fiat using Lightning hold invoices and Nostr for communication. Anyone can run a node, anyone can build a client, and every node competes on its own fees and rules.

No single server to shut down. No central database to seize. The network keeps running as long as any node stays online.

That's what decentralization actually looks like in practice.

#Bitcoin #Nostr #Lightning #Decentralization #P2P

Running a Mostro node isn't reserved for developers.

If your local Bitcoin group already trusts each other, you can operate the exchange yourselves: your currency, your payment methods, your rules. Mostro handles the protocol side over Lightning and Nostr.

Communities in Cuba, Colombia, Spain, Bolivia, and Venezuela are already running their own nodes through the Community Program.

Real financial sovereignty means nobody needs to say yes before you trade.

Mostro 🧌 runs as an open protocol on Lightning and Nostr. Every trade settles through math, hold invoices, and peer confirmation, with no company standing in the middle.

This is the world cypherpunks wrote about decades ago. Now it runs in production.

#Bitcoin #Cypherpunk #Nostr #Lightning #Sovereignty

Why does exchanging bitcoin between two people require a company in the middle?

Mostro is the answer built in code.

A green protocol, with yellow glowing eyes and a lightning bolt on its chest, living on Nostr, settling on Lightning, asking nobody's permission to exist ⚡

Part monster. Part protocol. All Bitcoin.
