Until now, Cashu ecash mints operated almost exclusively via the Lightning Network. This new standard officially introduces a framework for mints to handle traditional, on-chain Bitcoin transactions directly.

From a compliance and risk perspective, this is worth watching: It expands the operational scope of ecash mints, changing how they interact with the base layer blockchain and potentially altering how flow-of-funds and transaction finality are viewed.
