All classes are free during the event, or you can buy a $37 USD pass before April 21 to keep access past the event. You can also buy the long-term access during the event, but the price goes up.

Name and email required to sign up.

David Drazil of Sketch Like an Architect is the host, with 20+ watercolor teachers, including Anastasiia, whose Travel Sketching course I’m currently working through.

Laly Mille, one of my favorite mixed media artists, has a free 20 minute lesson on creating a journal page: https://www.lalymille.com/give-back-friday

It requires an email address and is only available this week.

She has a few other short online classes in the Freebies section of her website, including an intro to art supplies. 🎨🖌️📔

A Sketch of a Tree in about an hour.

Same teacher, different webinar, than last time. This webinar is earlier than the first one I watched, and I prefer the later one; he had the process more refined and didn’t bother with a reference photo.

With a reference photo, I felt my tree didn’t turn out as well as the first one I drew without the reference photo, because even though the “from my imagination tree” didn’t really turnout as I imagined it, I liked it because there wasn’t anything concrete to compare it to - my “imagination tree” updated to match the sketch, while my reference tree just sat there not looking as much like the reference photo as it “should have” …. Which , unless the point of the exercise is to precisely copy the photo, doesn’t matter.

Definitely something to play with as I keep wandering along my sketching journey. 🖊️

For the #artstr …. Nicholas Wilton of Art2Life is running a free 5 day workshop starting March 3rd.

• Email sign up required.

• They encourage attending the live sessions so you can ask questions and get answers, but you don’t have to: all live sessions are recorded and can be watched later.

• There’s a Facebook group, but you can get all the videos and info without being part of that.

• There’s a VIP option for $47 USD for some extra content and to keep access to the info for a year; the free version allows access through March 12th.

I took one of his free workshops a few years ago and they are a fun way to learn and experiment.

YAMA (mountain) - the first final collage 4” x 4” 🎉

Tried so many ways to use that white wave washi tape as an obi and none of them felt right. Turns out it was meant to be a ribbon, not a band.

Pulling out “limited” supplies for collage onto my 4” x 4” painted squares. 😬

1. How it was: back of the painted board divided into 4” x 4” squares.

2. How it is: Yes, Maybe, and Needs Work piles of painted 4” x 4” squares thanks to Boyfriend because he’s awesome like that.

Next step is collage and more paint on the squares that appealed to me.

1. How it started: 24” x 20” gessoed mat board with swatch sheet of potential colors and supplies.

2. How it’s going: lotsa acrylic paint, water-soluble crayons and pencils.

Needs to dry, then it will be cut up into 4” x 4” squares for Phase 2.
