Happy December 1st!!!

This year, I have a diorama advent calendar that’s a cozy little bookstore.

Today’s piece was the bookstore sign.

#adventcalendar #countdown #tistheseason

Day 24/24 - final advent calendar jigsaw puzzle! 80 pieces including 9 whimsies to form a nativity scene.

#adventcalendar #jigsawpuzzle #wentworth #adventpuzzle2024 https://i.nostr.build/tbw4DqZNW5or4UaK.jpg https://i.nostr.build/RCXEgJymM2g5tgW0.jpg

Day 23/24 - stockings! Only saw I showed the image side of the box instead of the day after I completed the puzzle. 😅

Day 22/24 - my first landscape whimsy (a mountain) in this fun, Santa Express, puzzle. 🎅🚂⛰️🧩

Day 21/24 - dessert whimsies!!! 🍰

I’m guessing this is a crop of a larger painting …. because the carousel background doesn’t make sense.

Day 20/24 - #catstr and #dogstr whimsy pieces!!!

Impressed they got the whimsies to look like the breeds in the image. 👀

The 2 pieces near the front-facing cat whimsy had lasers cuts for whiskers, so I put those together in the first photo.

Day 19/24 - Extra Difficult puzzle so no whimsy pieces, but it can be solved (somewhat) easily by figuring out the pattern.

With this kind of puzzle, I start inside out because that was where the 5 largest pieces fit according to the image.

Ran into the ‘difficult’ part when I couldn’t get the top right corner to fit in … because two pieces that looked like they were in the correct place, weren’t (red circles). Swap those two and the corner piece fit in perfectly.

No artist listed, so assuming it’s an AI generated image. Looking closely at some of the details, they do appear off; things I would have cleaned up with Photoshop.

Day 18/24 - painting from the late 16th century today.

Lots of details in the human figures…. Including a group in the bottom left corner who wiped out while ice skating on the river (last photo).

Day 17/24 - lovely image-appropriate angel whimsies! Bonus that the patterned background was cropped to have unique edge pieces.

Day 16/24 - this is how I usually work a jigsaw puzzle: edges inward.

Since these puzzles are so small (around 6” x 4”) the interior edge will usually have an obvious place for a whimsy piece … like putting the Christmas tree whimsy on its right side to fit into the bottom right corner.

Nostriches make the coolest stuff!

Day 15/24 - fun country Christmas scene with 9 birds!

All done with advent jigsaw puzzle catch up notes. 🎄🗓️🧩

And because I’m on Nostr, I’m not worried about having my account locked for two weeks for posting three times in a row with the same hashtags, unlike on a certain centralized social medium. 🫂💜

Day 14/24 - another with the squirrelly unique pieces. This was a tough one.

The box says “free form” but not a level of difficulty like some of the other boxes. I guess “free form” is the clue.

#adventcalendar #jigsawpuzzle #wentworth #adventpuzzle2024 https://i.nostr.build/XUES0OPEPWYiBBhE.jpg https://i.nostr.build/RTdxsd31qROA3mZZ.jpg

Day 13/24 - love this tawny owl.

I worked with a birds of prey rehabilitation group when I was in high school. We had a permanent great horned owl and barn owl we would take to schools and events as outreach educational programs.

Day 12/24 - forgot to take a photo of just the whimsy pieces, so after I finished, I flipped the puzzle over, took the second photo and circled the whimsy pieces for you.

#adventcalendar #jigsawpuzzle #wentworth #adventpuzzle2024 https://i.nostr.build/xvsMrAN0WmXJLaOw.jpg https://i.nostr.build/CH8OKkMZCreFwpkS.jpg

Day 11/24 - This puzzle had a specific, repeating pattern, so once I figured that out, the pieces fell into place easily … not sure what about this is Extra Difficult… at least not at this small size.

Last photo is the finished puzzle flipped over so you can see the pattern.

Day 10/24 - cozy whimsies! I put together a puzzle piece with the top of the cottage whimsy because the top piece had two little smoke lines. First time I’ve seen laser cuts on a non-whimsy piece.

Day 9/24 - I’d seen this design on a large puzzle in the Wentworth catalog. Very happy to have it included in this year’s advent calendar. Really love the design and patterns.

Day 8/24 - kitties in snow! 🐅❄️

Love this image. I was into big cats when I was young.

Wild Cat Fact: The physically large cats in North America are the cougar/puma and jaguar. A cougar isn’t technically a “big cat” because they don’t have a certain bone adaption which means they can’t roar like true big cats (lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, snow leopards).

Day 7/24 - such weirdly cut pieces! Thought it would make for a very difficult puzzle, but it ended up being very fun. No artist listed on the box as on the others, so I assume this is an AI image. I like it a lot.

Day 6/24 - ice skating elves and Santa in a hot air balloon

#adventcalendar #jigsawpuzzle #wentworth #adventpuzzle2024 https://i.nostr.build/O7kr2r7TpJ5cmaQu.jpg https://i.nostr.build/W541RzieN6lRrXXd.jpg

Day 5/24 - for only 32 pieces, this was a tough little 🎄 😅

No straight outer edges, multiple pieces that fit together perfectly but were in the completely wrong locations, and while I do love details, these are tiny! The whole puzzle is shorter than my fingertips to palm.

But it was a slow, fun, lovely way to start my Thursday.

Day 4/24 - restaurant whimsies to go with Vincent’s cafe. I always think of the episode with the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond when I see this painting.

Day 3/24 - classic Santa image so toy whimsies along with a stocking and Santa head.

#adventcalendar #jigsawpuzzle #wentworth #adventpuzzle2024 https://i.nostr.build/a5sMpyszcGuvR0LF.jpg https://i.nostr.build/4fXEY5uQwBMTRu8Q.jpg

Day 2/24 - lots of animal whimsy pieces today to go with the animal-themed jigsaw puzzle.

Wentworth does a great job with that: matching the unique laser-detailed pieces to the image.

For the custom puzzle I got for my mom this year, I chose gardening whimsies since it was a mixed media artwork I made of flowers from her garden.

Happy December!!!! I started my jigsaw puzzle advent calendar from Wentworth today. I enjoy their wooden puzzles with whimsies pieces.

I thought I pulled out all the whimsies for the first photo, then found another as I was making the puzzle. Final puzzle in the last photo.

1/24 - vintage holiday street

I adored advent calendars, and this one is really impressive. Each box is a little wooden jigsaw puzzle! 🧩 🖼️

I’m really looking forward to doing one of these each day in December. Now to clear a dedicated horizontal space for them. 😁
