April Recap at Dream Grad Academy – Research, Reflection, and Room to Grow

Dream Grad Academy is a

Light Node providing beginner Bitcoin education and building a learning community around Bitcoin and health. After a succesful pilot cohort of learners in the ten week diploma, 2 learners are going on to participate in educator training in the coming weeks.

Addtional notable projects in development include MedSchlr, an early-stage Nostr-native health sciences publishing platform, alongside an expanding portfolio of student-led research. April brought that momentum into public view.

Nashville, Tennessee: Bitcoin and Health Forum -April

A sincere thank you to

for welcoming one of our nursing student and putting on a world class event at Bitcoin Park. We asked her to reflect on what she experienced:

"As a student who has only been involved in the Bitcoin and health scene for a couple of months, it was inspiring to see so many unique physicians and healthcare professionals speak up about their experiences and contributions to this emerging field. Ideas that struck me most were the misguided incentivization of medicine, the lack of price transparency in health services, the over-emphasis of sickcare over genuine healthcare, the need for Bitcoiners in health to have low time preference, and the importance of building a new system rather than reforming a corrupted one. I look forward to building more connections with innovative Bitcoiners in the future." - Moon, K.

Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact McMaster Research Day — April 28

DGA students presented four posters representing some of the earliest work in decentralized health. A Healthy Aging and Society thesis student presented preliminary findings on the scholarly publishing landscape underpinning MedSchlr. Graduate students presented a theory-based poster and live demo of decentralized publishing on Nostr. Undergraduate nursing students presented preliminary findings from the Bitcoin merchant adoption study, currently under ethics review.

Four posters. Five student researchers. One emerging field.

What April tells us:

When DGA was founded, virtually no peer-reviewed literature existed at the intersection of Bitcoin, Nostr, and health. April is evidence that we are on a path to changing that, student by student, conference by conference.

When learning a new skill, is it best to aim for precision or getting a feel from the practice with imperfection? I’m thinking this is going to become a blanket, but we’ll see. Either way I think it will be warm.

Such a great feeling when your avacados are not rotten inside! 😊🧡😁

The Invisible Health Tax: How Fiat Makes Us Sick?

What if your constant stress, burnout, and health issues weren’t just about work, diet, or “self-care”…

…but about the money system you live inside of?

In this episode of The Signal, Dr Satoshi (an American hospitalist) and I sit down — to explore her new work on “The Invisible Health Tax.

This conversation delves into:

• How fiat money quietly creates chronic stress and sickness

• The idea of a “mitochondrial tax” — the energy drain on your cells caused by unsound money

• Why inflation is linked to worse mental health, lower life expectancy, and burnout

• How Bitcoin’s predictable monetary policy can lower background stress and change health trajectories

The role of truth, sovereignty, and alignment in healing

And Emma’s new project with Dream Grad Academy, the Bitcoin Health Network — a hub connecting Bitcoin-aware health & wellness professionals with people who want sound money and sound health

Along the way Dr Satoshi shares his own story of working more and more hospital shifts to keep up with fiat debasement… and how discovering Bitcoin changed my health, relationships, and sense of inner peace.

If you’ve ever felt that your money and your nervous system are more connected than anyone talks about — this conversation will resonate.

The highlighting feature in some Nostr clients is cool especially when you want to take note of cool ideas and pointing out typos etc.

I’m still learning how to use all the various features, like highlighting. Learn by doing with experimentation and error correction.

Low-key Sunday. Catching up on a few pods. Another banger from

this week about healthcare systems and stories of exorbitant payments and wait times for crucial healthcare services. Learn how Bitcoin can fix some of these issues with Andy Schoonover from

.

For people in contexts with more universal healthcare systems like in Canada and UK, Bitcoin is still relevant even though it may seem that healthcare is free. Someone has to pay and it’s through taxes and revenues at federal and more local levels (provinces etc.).

Imagine if local regions had bitcoin reserves to help fund heathcare? Could this lower the tax dollar spend on healthcare? More importantly, what would healthcare look like if people save in bitcoin and pool their monies? nostr:nprofile1qqsq0rqv0z34umfmc2g23cqfw9zwr47ywxq47glge7smpq4cpd2zf4qppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyvhwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnndehhyapwwdhkx6tpdshs47yauf gives us an opportunity to see what’s possible.

https://youtu.be/f940kVrPwNw?

The beginning discussion during this pod reminds of how much the school of thought or theories we cling to can shape a given field.

Like in economics health sciences and medicine are full of competing schools of thought when it comes to the cause, treatment, and prevention of certain diseases.

Drawing on some recent Nostr discussions, could germ theory be the Keynesian equivalent built on fiat incentives clouding the way in which mainstream approaches the study of disease, prevention, and treatment of disease? Saifedean in his writings on fiat science touches on some of this.

While the Boomer discussion doesn’t focus on health it presents a lively chat on related topics that have implications for human life.

Thankful for the positive reception so far on the ‘Invisible Health Tax’ article.🧡😊

If you haven’t already, please consider sharing with others that you think might be interested in the topic. #health

Yesterday marked a major milestone for Dream Grad Academy (DGA). With

we were able to give a lecture on a Canadian campus to a classroom full of global health students!

They learned about BTC circular economies and how bitcoin can empower the unbanked. Over 10 students signed up to take the 1-hr

course with DGA in November.

After this, DGA aims to gather a cohort of students to do the 10-week My First Bitcoin diploma.

Excited for the possibilities! Big thanks to Beyli and the Mac Global Health program!

Great talk about Nostr with

and

at the Canadian Bitcoin Conference highlighting the importance of open social communications for more free societies.

💭 What if our money is making us stressed and sick? My new article explores how sound money might be an overlooked health determinant—from chronic disease to mental health crises. #health #medschlr

Throwback to last weekend. Still feeling the amazing vibes.

Love my new beaded bracelet purchased with sats! Bitcoin is more than money. It’s hope for a better future. 🧡

Grateful to have thoughtful healthcare professionals and an interdisciplinary team

and others contributing to the MedSchlr initiative and those who have been supporting us on Geyser and nostr! 🏥 If you're interested in what we're doing, please follow MedSchlr, read the charter, and share your thoughts. 📚💭 Together we can make a difference to improve healthcare knowledge, research, education, and communication!

If you could create a medical and health sciences knowledge base (peer review articles, scholarly works, guidelines etc.) and a place for community funded research and education on nostr #Alexandria what would be the guiding principles and use cases? Check out the draft MedSchlr Charter and provide your feedback. #DocChain

Reading old health texts pre-1900s, some things are so wrong but some observations are so right….

“Fear….It takes from him reflection, power, resolution and judgment; and in short all that dignity and greatness of soul… It has great influence on occasioning, aggravating and producing disease.” - Gunn’s Domestic Medicine (1836)

If we cared to promote health in our environments we would reduce fear appeals in media and take a constructive approach to communicating problems in a way that engenders a sense of agency that we can overcome.

nostr provides a beautiful protocol that allows us to overcome the tendency to stoke fear and exchange ideas in thoughtful discourse. Is it perfect no but it presents a meaningful alternative.

Thankful for all of the developers and content creators who are moving this bright future ahead. Freedom tech helps us move beyond fear.

Does anyone have any good book recommendations or reading material that examines the importance of having standards in communication or value exchange?

I am exploring the benefits of universal measurement systems like for time and how they have helped society in value exchange etc. I would like to make the same arguments for money.

It can be nerve wracking to share your story and views when it feels like very few people from your discipline or field of study may not see things the same way.

I had the opportunity yesterday to sit down with an awesome podcaster to share some of my thoughts.

I hope to get better at conveying my ideas to contribute to larger conversations on how we can improve health an social well-being at individual and population levels.

Bitcoin as a fundamental socioeconomic base layer provides an opportunity to restore incentives in the health and social sectors. What does health care and associated systems look like on a Bitcoin standard?

I don’t fully know but given the principles of Bitcoin, it brings power back to the individual and necessary goods and services may be more decentralized providing more choice. Also, communities may be able to build better and thrive around their core values.

Another gorgeous day:

There is nothing like being under a beautiful tree on a summer day with a light breeze. Nature is beautiful.

Are you involved in or know of any Bitcoin mining projects in the Caribbean? Or developing a conceptual framework on how one would be implemented in a local context within the region? If so, consider submitting an abstract to the 2024 Canadian Caribbean Institute Research symposium.

I would be happy to help draft an abstract showcasing your work to highlight any of the following: How Bitcoin incentivizes use of renewable energy; 2) stabilizes energy grids etc; 3) Potential benefits that could contribute to community resilience especially in the face of natural disasters etc.; The abstract deadline is close so for anyone who is interested in a collab we would need to connect soon. Feel free to DM me here.

Let’s engage in the discourse on climate change to show how Bitcoin can help redress the way we think about climate, energy, and sustainability.

Accidentally zapped myself not realizing that the zap button on primal is so automatic once loaded with sats. Time to zap three random people to make up for the three self zaps. Learning new tech is fun but also requires patience, experimentation, and error correction.
