Finally, I had a painting of Jesus walking with the lost sheep, now found.

My tradition, the reformed faith, takes a strict position on the 2nd Commandment (graven images) ; we believe the spirit of this law forbids a believer from keeping images, especially art, of heavenly things, including even the earthly body of the Messiah, for His divine nature is inseparable.

Even this painting, which many would argue passes the letter of the law, does violence to the spirit of the law. When I disposed of it, my flesh resisted and I felt wounded. In this, I understood how man's fallen heart is eager to replace God with objects and become attached to them.

When I meditated on it, searched the Scriptures, and prayed... I became convicted that God wants His people to depend wholly on Him. So simple, yet difficult for us. The flesh clings to this world, and resists the Spirit.

Repent always.

#ToChristAlone

This one was hard. My wife and I had two wedding ceremonies: one in a chapel in the US and one in a shrine in Japan.

As part of that latter ceremony, we recieved a temple charm with my family name on it and both our names.

This charm is the most egregious of all the betraying momentos, aka religious objects that I possessed, since it literally was a signed seal over our marriage covenant.

It had become an important momento and symbol of our marriage. But now, as the Spirit is pressing me to rightly order my affections and clean my house, this charm can have no place in my walk.

I've had to mute Alan. Do not be decieved by his false gospel. I pray to the Lord that he is disciplined and brought #ToChristAlone.

As someone who grew up with a fascination of Japan, I ultimately traveled there many times, participated in many Japanese activities, and acquired many momentos.

Festival garments, wishing coins to donate to the Shinto temple, little charms for good luck, etc...

Japan is a secular nation that still practices many annual ceremonies of their Shinto/Zen past. To them, it is inert, but culturally rich. The spiritualism of it has faded with the younger generation. Now people go to enjoy the music, food, and sense of ancient times and culture of their people.

Before I was born again, I viewed this as harmless, and was fascinated with their far eastern way which was so exotic and strange compared with the west, especially Japan which has a wholly individual and unique culture.

Now, as someone being made progressively conformant to the Lord, I understand that these are objects and ceremonies of false religion, and even if I do not treat them as implements of worship, but as mementos, they still dishonor my Lord and must go.

Repent always.

God is like a star at the top of a mountain where wordly men cannot even enter to climb and even the most holy men are incinerated into dust after a thousand feet of climbing. ⛰️✴️

Noone can ascend to meet a perfect God. Noone. Nobody is pure enough to commune with our Creator in eternity. Nobody can go and be where He is.

We must be escorted by the One sent down to vouch for us. We must obtain a righteousness that is not our own. We must have our sins atoned for.

We must forsake everything and follow Christ Jesus.

Thich Naht Hanh is a deciever with a false gospel. He turns communion into Buddhist mindfulness and the kingdom of God into the cosmos, then claims we are "of the same reality as Jesus".

Hahn turns the resurrection into a mindfulness technique anyone can practice, saying: "If Jesus Christ could do it, then we human beings like him can also do it." He says that Christ is not the sole mediator.

In Thich's deception, Buddhism sets the boundaries and Christianity gets rewritten to fit. The historic Buddha and the historic Christ cannot be reconciled: one points to extinction with no personal God, the other is God in the flesh who came to save.

Reject Hahn, follow Christ.

Alan Watts was an enemy of Jesus Christ. He openly mocked the virgin birth, resurrection, and the need for salvation through Jesus. He teaches a false gospel that leads people away from Christ.

The "religion of Jesus" Watts pushes is just his own Eastern-flavored spirituality. He calls the biblical Jesus a "human freak" who was "unnaturally born and whose corpse was weirdly reanimated". He says the most reverent act is to destroy the church's image of him.

True Christianity has always been a religion about Jesus: His life, death, and resurrection as the only way to the Father.

Zen, an esoteric religion of self actualization and self enlightenment, is not neutral and not compatible with Christianity.

Reject Watts, follow Christ.

When building out your Bible library, it's good to choose a Bible from a few translation traditions. 📖🙏

For example:

• LSB for high formal equivalence.
• ESV for essentially literal, day to day reading.
• CSB for optimal equivalence, balancing easy reading while retaining most idioms, theology, and literary forms.
• NLT for hyper readable, trading off accuracy.

Both the CSB and especially the NLT start to decay from being pushed into modern, liberal English. But they are exceptionally readable, so with proper discernment, they can enhance your overall comprehension dramatically.

I make my home with the ESV+LSB, which are trustworthy but take much time and study to comprehend well, and then venture out into the CSB and even the NLT when beneficial.

Any modern, less literal translation should be marked up to defend yourself:

I highlight in red gender inclusive renderings, writing the Colorado Springs guideline next to it, in red, in the margins. I do the same when the textual rendering is too liberal, or compromises age old reformed doctrines.

Reasons to prioritize the ESV, LSB, NKJV translations of Scripture.

#MasculineFrame #ToChristAlone

The King James Version Bible is beautiful, trustworthy, and challenging.

If you are unable to evaluate a translation, then the KJV is a great Bible translation to stick with.

At the same time, if you are unable to evaluate translations, then the chance of being able to thoroughly comprehend the KJV is low.

Personally, I use the ESV for every day Scripture reading. When verses, sections, chapters, and even books are difficult to understand, I fold in readings from the CSB and sometimes even the NLT. Both are optimal/functional equivalent translations that are literal when possible, but dynamic when necessary for low friction comprehension.

For deep study, I go in the opposite direction: the LSB for even more formal equivalence to the original manuscripts, and study bibles in ESV (Ligonier), KJV (Reformation Heritage), and CSB (Holman). A handbook (Ryken's) and a commentary (New Bible 21st) can really enhance the depth of your handle on the Scriptures.

Christians should learn how to navigate translations. Every single Bible, including the KJV, is a translation.

The problem with the few having most of the resources, whether by station or ability, is not that they have the most resources and that's unfair, it's that man as a whole is covetous and unable to tolerate when others are blessed.

Early childhood baptism = good, fine, wonderful. 👍

Disciple your children from babies they'll soon comprehend what sin is, who God is, why He sent Christ, etc, and they'll demand to be baptized so much earlier than you think (6,7,8 y/o), and any confessional baptist church will baptize them into church membership.

Infant baptism = not convinced. 🤔

This seems to be for the sole benefit of the parents more than the infant, seeing how infants must rely on their parents to perform all practical cognition and cannot make any real discernments at this time.

What do you think?

#ToChristAlone

Baptism Doesn't Save. 💦

For the regenerate, baptism is a form of sanctification where the outward self is made consistent with the inward self reborn of the Spirit.

For the unregenerate, baptism enters one into the visible church.

In both cases, baptism declares outwards allegiance to Christ, enjoining one to the church community.

Baptism does at least these things, perhaps more, but baptism does not itself provide salvation, God does.

Teaching 3 year olds to clean:

1. Maintain a large toy/stuff/book storage room with many shelves and cubbies for organizing an excess of things.

2. Reduce possessions in their room and main areas until airy, light, and everything has a place to be easily and obviously put away.

3. Incorporate cleaning into the family culture everytime you leave a room. Never leave a room in a dirty state. Do it with them. Be the example.

4. When a child refuses to clean, pick those items up and move to storage in a matter of fact way. When a child wants to rotate or obtain new toys, do so only when they are managing their responsibility of cleaning. With blessings come responsibility.

5. Never be angry, just show them this is the way it is. Sympathize if they become upset. Tell them you are rooting for them: they can do it! Sell the value of existing in a clean space. Explain how God wants us to be good stewards of the things He has entrusted to us. Love + example = discipline.

Scripture teaches that, although we choose Jesus ourselves, it is only because the Spirit has provided a new heart that now desires the things of God.

In other words, until we are reborn, we do not have the desire/ability to seek after God, for we are utterly enslaved and in love with our sin, our pride, our rebellion.
