The Lisp Game Jam is happening, and yes,
is participating again this year! https://itch.io/jam/autumn-lisp-game-jam-2026
The Lisp Game Jam is a no-genAI-permitted game jam.
If you want to get started, may I recommend Spritely's Hoot? We even have a game jam template with a mini-breakout game for you to try https://codeberg.org/spritely/hoot-game-jam-template
Have fun! Look forward to seeing what you make, no matter how big or small!

One thing I've taken away from some of these things is that a lot of communities say "well we can't ban genAI contributions, because you never really know", and maybe you won't for some, though you might for a lot, but for sure some will slip through
But also what we are seeing is that vibecoders / slop artists will absolutely take their ball and leave in a huff if you say it isn't welcome here
Sometimes they'll even start a completely separate thing for them
And great! Go do it.
But yeah, placing rules of such things do work. And it does help preserve communities.

look how absolutely right @dthompson was here about "yeah you can't expect Anthropic/OpenAI to let you liberate proprietary software from copyright" https://toot.cat/@dthompson/117508432881233949
It's already happening:

ANTHROPIC IS CRACKING DOWN ON VIDEO GAME REWRITES 🚨
Claude Code picked up a new rule around Oct 27, sent from Anthropic’s servers under a flag called "tengu_heron_brook". There’s no setting to turn it off.
The full rule: “Do build original games, games in a genre, and games from the user’s own designs and assets. Don’t build a recreation of a specific existing game, even if it is renamed or called original.”

heh, well... I guess, not surprising at all. It's a supply chain attack but also, the amount of lack of knowledge of wtf is happening beneath the surface going on at Anthropic and at plenty of places like it... I wonder if this is just the tip of the iceberg

I have the show Thunderbirds on in the background, which I have never seen before, and I am simultaneously floored by how technically impressive it is and also how racist and sexist it is
I anticipated on all of those fronts and they are all defying my expectations in every way
I'm sorry but did you get a LICENSE to perform that HTTP GET???
Every now and then I see someone complain about fedi being "too AI hostile" but everywhere else I go is completely deluged in slop. It's not like it doesn't happen here too but it's nice to be somewhere that feels like a break from all that

I'm a little uncertain about linking to this talk, because it is... far and away the most emotional talk of my life. I spent a lot of time crying on stage, and that was no act. But here is my talk from DWeb Camp: "Spritely: Painting a New Vision for the Internet" https://dwebcamp.org/videos/spritely-painting-a-new-vision-for-the-internet/
The talk is about
and why I think our work matters, but also multiple levels of existential crisis, including the potentially absurd choice to have the executive director of your org animate a short film, which I am hard at work doing, trying to justify our existence
And who gives a shit, when anyone can just press a button and get generated output
Who really cares?
Who cares about any of this.
But I do care.
It also contains major spoilers for the very animation I'm working on right now, but in much more raw and largely storyboarded form. And it's... a raw, and emotional talk, that also had much of the room likewise in tears. So I dunno, maybe watch it or not; consider that your CW.

I was corrected on this. The checkmark is to make it explicit you aren't ok with AI usage, and there wasn't a ToS change. See here: https://mastodon.art/@waynedixon/117509748411999791
My bad for passing this along without sufficiently reviewing myself. I apologize for that.

Consequences for the recent LLM vote seem to have arrived for Debian... automated slop reviews: https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2026/10/msg00263.html
And we see here that at least one Debian developer, @josch, has been lost due to this change.
This is INCREDIBLY sad IMO. If you're an MNT Reform family computer user, @josch is basically a folk hero for making those machines work.
I am still feeling vindicated in my Vibe Bobsled blogpost, having seen both what's happening to the Linux Kernel and now to Debian, where we see the dismantling not only of individuals coding, but also communities, as everyone rides the icy chute down the hill https://dustycloud.org/blog/faulty-towers-vibe-sickness-and-the-vibe-bobsled/

I just realized why Blender's 3d cursor seemed like it worked differently to place it than it used to. Previously I would place the cursor once from the front and then once from the side and the cursor would end up on all the axes where I expected by working in "both" views. I would sometimes use this to eg put the 3d cursor "inside" objects.
But it seems like now the 3d cursor defaults to "sticking to the outside of" objects, presumbly being raycast into position.
This is interesting, and maybe often useful! But is there any way to toggle on the old behavior?
If you are a #blender person who has assets, code, extensions on SuperHive (formerly Hive Market), know that there was a terms of service update that gives them permission to sell your work for training to LLM companies.
You can opt out, but it's hidden, and the announcement was buried. https://blenderartists.org/t/creators-starting-today-superhive-sells-your-products-to-ai/1656000

Years ago
introduced me to Signed Distance Fields (SDF) as an interesting direction for making 3d art more accessible. Her Tangerine project remains super inspiring to me, and I appreciate Aeva as the kind of friend who is "helpfully dissatisfied" and wants to push tech in interesting directions
But I hadn't seen much in SDF land for some time, but recently
has been doing interesting explorations and tracking them in this mega thread: https://blenderartists.org/t/the-big-sdf-thread/1293075/2119
The big contenders seem to be the Chisel add-on to Blender, but it's proprietary :( But Speedsculpt is getting SDF tools now too, and that looks promising, so maybe there will be a libre add-on I'll feel comfortable using (I don't mind paying for it, as long as it's FOSS). And there was something on the Blender roadmap recently about maybe possibly exploring builtin SDF tools to replace metaballs etc.
I dunno, seems cool and exciting.
