Woke up, typed an idea into a clanker, pressed "1" a bunch of times and ended up with a

version of the new Tando app connected to

wallet. What just happened???

Now you don't even have to leave Tando to open your paying wallet. A more seamless experience. Open protocols ftmfw

It took us a little while, but the new Tando is finally HERE🔥

A fresh new look, and better and faster overall experience. We’ve put a lot of thought and work into this and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped bring this new look to life, as well as all of you who shared feedback and helped us shape the new experience.

Now it’s your turn to check it out! Update your Tando app here: 🤖Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.tando.tandoapp 🍎App Store: https://apps.apple.com/ke/app/tando/id6584531359 (

mini-app update coming soon.)

What’s your favourite feature on the new app? We’re curious!

“From the moment I arrived at the airport, moving around has been really easy. I can pay for my rides, go to grocery stores, get whatever I want, and pay with Tando. And the beautiful thing is, the people I’m paying don’t even need to know I’m paying in bitcoin. You can just go anywhere, do whatever you want, and pay with Tando” Megasley of Africa Free Routing

“You can pay for everything with bitcoin in Kenya including customs officials 👀 because Tando exists”

Taxis, steaks, drinks, and an embarrassing amount of Kenyan coffee, all paid for with bitcoin (the global neutral money) into the local economy, supporting local businesses.

Coming to Kenya? Take notes! Be like

with any lightning wallet and Tando.

Maybe it's just me, but everywhere I go I see bitcoin Lightning Addresses! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Have your cake🧁. Eat it too. Pay for it with Bitcoin⚡️

1️⃣Open Tando, choose your payment option: SendMoney, BuyGoods, or PayBill.

2️⃣Enter the details, and pay the invoice Tando creates using your preferred Bitcoin Lightning wallet and that’s it.

A new and improved Tando is just around the corner! We've listened to all your amazing feedback and have been working on a refresh of your favorite bitcoin spending app. Here's a preview of what's to come and a call to any heroic Sats Spenders that want early access. 🧵👇

1️⃣The #1 feedback since launch is "We want Tando in Country ___!" so this redesign sets us up for that future. Gone is the simple 4-box grid. Now we have a flexible vertical button layout that gives us options to expand where there are more/less payment types. Payment buttons are more descriptive, and we have recent transaction history integrated right on the main screen.

Note: we will launch this new version of the app first in Kenya before we add other countries.

2️⃣Another big improvement is the display of recipient names -- IF you have sent to them previously. This should greatly reduce the dreaded situation of sending to the wrong number. You now get visual name confirmations before the funds are sent!

We also reduced the number of steps in a transaction by combining the currency conversion step right into the final preview payment step.

Time is money, and Tando saves you both!

3️⃣QR Codes are ugly. And since Tando isn't a wallet app, it doesn't make sense to display that ugly thing so prevalently. Tando is for humans, so machine-readable QR codes are tucked away, but still easily accessible if that's your jam.

4️⃣Not much has changed with the payment processing screen since it's a crowd favorite. Just a slight refresh to match the new vibes. If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it.

5️⃣Not everyone knows of the secret feature to show/hide the Bitcoin bits of the receipt. So we've made it a bit more obvious with the 3 swipe dot indicators.

6️⃣Wait, did you say THREE swipe dots? Yup. There's now a 3rd receipt display type to mimic SMS receipts. Plain and simple without any Tando branding. Those matatu conductors won't even know what app you used for payment or what currency. Super stealth.🤫

7️⃣This was another very popular feature request. We have so many power users that live entirely on bitcoin thanks to Tando, and they needed way deeper transaction history. Now you have it! You can finally see all your bitcoin transactions from 2005! 😉🤣

8️⃣... but wait, there's more! You can now also search your transactions by recipient name, filter by transaction type and filter within a specific date range to track down that proof of payment you might need to resurface.

9️⃣ which brings us to another HUGE request. People have wanted a way to replay transactions (or contact lists was another similar request we heard). Now from your transaction history screen (which is searchable and longer than 10 most recent) you can swipe left/right on any transaction and it will quickly fill in the same exact payment details -- except the amount. Just type in the new amount and you're QUICKLY replaying that exact transaction. No typos. No mistakes. Quickly launch your lightning wallet for final approval!

This is SLICK! Wait until you try it!

🔟 We're adding a few more settings options as well with a better menu system including quickly reaching us with any burning questions, or maybe more feedback that we can incorporate into the next app update to make it even better. Just like this thread!

Soon we'll have in-app DMs so you can messages us without ever leaving the app for even faster response times. All via private & secure NOSTR chat.

1️⃣1️⃣ Speaking of NOSTR... Did you know that since there is no sign-up necessary for Tando we auto-generate a public/private key pair as your unique Tando App ID. That keeps your transactions private. It also lets us give you Tando backup & restore! With this new app you'll have access to your private key that will let you backup your Tando app, and even migrate it over to a new device when you upgrade your phone. All your transaction history will be preserved.

1️⃣2️⃣ And finally, another BIG request from iPhone users is a way to change the default lightning wallet app. Apple doesn't make it easy, but we skinned that Apple! You'll now be able to set a preference on which Bitcoin Lightning wallet gets opened on your phone when it's time to make the lightning payment.

Oh, and you can choose your preferred display of BTC, showing all 8 decimal places, or the much shorter "sats" display. The shorter version will be the default, but it's always customizable in settings and will be used throughout the app so there's never any confusion.

We really hope you like the new design, the new features, the new preferences, the faster bitcoin payments and soon the new Tando in your country.

We are actively looking for a few people to help us test this new version very soon, so if that's you, please drop a comment or a DM if you would like to help us test out the new version.

Thanks to each and everyone of you for being a part of this journey! It's been real honor to serve you and in helping us all make Bitcoin the greatest Medium of Exchange humans have ever had!🧡🧡

Kitu fiti. Seamless. Beautiful. Experiential. Innovative. For the girlies. Amazing. Solution provider. Smooth. Really good UX. User friendly. What we’ve been missing for along time. Game-changer.

One of our favourite things about building Tando is the humans we get to meet along the way.

Moses and his brother run Kilimanjaro Balloon Safaris in Amboseli, Kenya: hot air balloon rides over one of Kenya's most breathtaking landscapes. They're also Bitcoiners, and they now accept bitcoin for their business.

If you're coming to Nairobi for

Nairobi or BTC++ in June, add this adventure to your bucketlist. See Africa’s tallest mountain peak glow from the morning sunrise, and families of elephants, zebras, giraffes and more from a whole new vantage point! Good value for your sats, and an experience you won't forget!

Ideating. 💡 Would it be useful to Bitcoin Circular Economies to be able to VISUALIZE their local economy? See where the system is leaking value back into the fiat world? Where the gaps exists that could be plugged to keep more BTC value within the local economy?

💧If the baker can't buy her flour with BTC, that's a leak. 💧If the posha mill can't buy his burlap sacks with BTC, that's a leak. 💧If the burlap sack maker can't transport sacks to market paying in BTC, that's a leak.

If you can see the leaks, you can plug them.

Update: The issue has been resolved.

You can now continue using the app as normal.

If you experienced any glitches earlier, please DM us and we’ll sort it out.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello Tando users. We’re currently experiencing a temporary issue and our team is actively looking into it.

In the meantime, we recommend holding off on making new transactions until we share a confirmation that everything is fully resolved. This will help avoid any inconvenience or delays.

We appreciate your patience and will provide an update shortly. Thank you for your understanding.

Happy Genesis Block Day! 🥳

In early January of 1983, the Internet was born with TCP/IP the neutral communications protocol that let anyone in the world connect and share information freely.

26 years later, January 2009, Bitcoin's Genesis Block was introduced to the world and the neutral value-transfer protocol was born, enabling peer-to-peer money without intermediaries.

Two pivotal moments at the start of January, unlocking humanity's power: to communicate openly and transact freely.

Today we celebrate these powerful open tools with Proof of Keys day. Take your sats off 3rd party platforms and into self custody to truly experience the power of freedom! ✊

Where will bitcoin be 26 years from now?? 🤯

Thank you 2025! Hello 2026⚡️💚

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from us🎄💚

However you’re celebrating, we hope it’s a good one.

And when it comes to paying the bills, we’ve got you. Let your bitcoin work for you, so you can focus on the moments that matter.

Merry Christmas from Tando.

What’s on your Christmas wishlist? For us, it’s simple. We want Bitcoin to win as a tool people can actually use.

Bitcoin is about freedom. The freedom to move value. To pay. To save. To live without friction. We want more Africans, and the world at large, to experience that freedom in everyday life.

This season, that’s our wish. We’re hoping Santa comes through.

What’s on your wishlist this Christmas? Tell us in the comments.

A small heads-up. We’ve noticed a new issue on the app, possibly linked to the earlier Cloudflare outage. We’re investigating and we’ll keep you posted as we work through it. Thank you for bearing with us.

Hi all. Everything is up and running again on the app. Thank you for your patience and for sticking with us.

Happy spending⚡️

Africa has the youngest population in the world. That’s why we love taking Bitcoin education to campuses because young people are the foundation of the future, and Bitcoin gives them a new one to build on.

Let’s be honest, the old systems are falling apart. Ask any young person how much they have in savings, how many have started families, bought homes, or even cars. Not many. Most will tell you it feels impossible with inflation and the cost of living today. Many are still living at home, putting dreams on hold, not because they lack ambition, but because the money system is broken.

Fiat is a weak foundation. It keeps people working harder for less, watching their money lose value over time. But Bitcoin offers something different, a lifeboat. A way for young Africans to build strong foundations for their future and generations to come.

That’s why we do this work on the ground, one conversation at a time, one student at a time.

If you’re part of a community 🇰🇪that needs Bitcoin or want to learn more about Bitcoin and how it can help you, send us a DM. We’d love to help.

If your Monday doesn’t look like this, you might need more Bitcoin & Tando in your life😃

New week, same mission:

✅Make bitcoin useful. ✅Keep it moving. ✅Smile while you do it.

The first Tando X CashApp moment we've seen from a diaspora Tandonite.

Meet Mary, who came back to Kenya after 26 years. In the past, she’d have to convert her bitcoin to dollars, then ask her uncle to take her to a forex bureau to swap those for shillings. This time was different: she found Tando. With just her Cash App Lightning wallet and the Tando app, she paid for everything, groceries, rides, you name it, with bitcoin.

Coming to Kenya? Be like Mary! Skip the hassle. Load your Lightning wallet, download Tando, and easily spend your bitcoin anywhere in the country🇰🇪! Karibu sana.

BTC ATH = Tando screen time ATH.

Bitcoin is at an all-time high (ATH) and so is real usage on Tando. Real ones don’t just HODL. They SPEND!! This is what Bitcoin was built for⚡️

Happy new week Bitcoiners. Tumia Bitcoin mpaka ikuzoee😉

Highlights from Seamless East Africa! Helping more Kenyans discover Bitcoin and freedom! Nothing more fulfilling than this✨

Here's a recap of a Bitcoin giveaway game that we vibe-coded for the Kenya Blockchain Conference! We ended up giving away 51 prizes of bitcoin to people who were interacting with the Bitcoin Lightning (Layer 2) network for the very first time! When they saw how fast it was, their smiles and laser-eyes lit up! 🤩

The best part of the giveaway was it created an incentive (free BTC!) for people to install a Lightning Wallet. And with their new wallet & a Lightning Address, they can use Bitika (a platform that allows Kenyans to buy bitcoin via M-pesa) to quickly buy more bitcoin and then use Tando to easily spend it. ☯️

Special shout-out to

who made the onboarding super easy for Lightning first-timers and made the game possible with support for LNURL-auth and LNURL-withdraw. And also graced us with a custom LN address: [email protected] 😉

am I not logged in? Is there something else I need to do? Logged in with nostr account. Thanks!

Get on board! We're headed to a better place. There are still plenty of seats left and the tickets are free! Just study ₿itcoin.

On Madaraka Day, we honor the spirit of self-governance as individuals. A reminder that true freedom lives in our ability to choose systems that serve us, not control us.

As we celebrate Kenya’s journey toward autonomy, picture a world where your wealth isn't tethered to distant money printers in far away lands, silently siphoning control.

It’s time we carry the torch of Madaraka into the digital age. Hold your own keys & take control. Run your own node & govern your future as Kenya did on this day.

Self-governance isn’t a holiday, it’s a practice. One block at a time.

What did Leonardo da Vinci say again? Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

At Tando, time is everything and we’re all about saving you time, which means saving you money. That way, you can go and focus on the things that truly matter in life.

That’s why we’ve made our platform simple as ABCD. And on top of that? We’re literally saving you money. All transactions on Tando are free.

Plus, you bring your own wallet, we don’t hold your funds. You stay in control, always. If that’s not freedom, I don’t know what is.

So go on, download Tando and experience it for yourself

Word on the street? It’s how the cool kids make payments now. Tando + Bitcoin= cheap, fast, private and efficient payments.

Don’t get left behind, be like the cool kids.

Happy new week💚

PS: We were there to preach and talk Bitcoin only!! ⚡️

Another achievement unlocked🥳! Tando just smashed 21,000 completed transactions! The sacred number😁

Thank you all for your continued support. Together, we’re proving to the world that bitcoin is a true medium of exchange.

Now let’s run it back turbo to100,000⚡️

Let’s go🥳

Over the weekend, we linked up with the Core team for their monthly Bitcoin meetup, always such a powerful space to connect, learn, and grow the movement.

It’s one thing to talk about Bitcoin, to explain how it works, what it stands for, and why it matters, but it’s something else entirely to see it in action, to watch someone realize they can pay for goods, send money, or settle a bill instantly with it, using tools like Tando. That moment of realization… it never gets old. It’s magical💚.

Big shoutout to the Core team for their consistency and passion in bringing Bitcoin education to the people. We’re always happy to support, share, and play our part in moving us all closer to a Bitcoin standard.

Grateful to have met so many curious minds and to have introduced them to this new way of thinking and spending😉! See you at the next one 🧡⚡
