👉 Two CEOs, Carlos Tavares of Stellantis and Pat Gelsinger of Intel, have resigned due to poor stock performance. 👉 Both CEOs had built their reputations over decades and were tasked with turning around legacy brands facing existential challenges. 👉 The article notes that the pressure on CEOs to deliver shareholder value is intense, and that it is hard to underperform the S&P 500 by 60-plus percentage points in a single year and retain the benefit of the doubt from the board of directors. 👉 The article also touches on the concept of shareholder primacy and the growing scrutiny of the idea that corporations should prioritize shareholder interests over other stakeholders.
