https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/rWrrIl70jGsLWmAZBsN42A--/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyMDA7aD04MDA-/https://media.zenfs.com/en/usa_today_money_325/f0bfe05252da04e871af0e1bf73a4e73

👉 Insurance costs now make up over 20% of the typical mortgage payment, up from 7-8% in the past. 👉 Underwriting profits for homeowners insurance companies have been negative nearly every year from 2017 to 2023. 👉 State lawmakers and regulators are exploring solutions, including requiring discounts for mitigation efforts and encouraging insurers to invest in communities. 👉 Some states are rethinking the role of insurance company investment portfolios, encouraging investment in communities rather than fossil fuel companies.
