I’m blown away by how much people get bent out of shape over how SOMEONE ELSE handles their Bitcoin.

If they sell it, fine. YOU buy it. Then YOU HAVE IT. Their loss.

Go find me a HANDMADE leather belt for less than two hundred dollars.

I get the Robb Report from my neighbor and I can tell you that fine leather belts are $500+ easily.

Who cares if SOMEONE ELSE is irresponsible with their piece of the Bitcoin supply.

There’s only so much of it. Buy it up quick while it’s still available.

Back in 2022, I was helping out at a watch store, cataloguing watch parts. It was March and the boss was out of town on a business trip.

I decided to give my friend from college a call to help with the monotony since I had seen her recently at my other job, which was quite a surprise after not hearing from her for over twenty years. She came in with her daughter who I had never met until that day. We exchanged numbers and said we’d chat sometime.

When I called from the watch store, we caught up, and it was so great to hear from a friend from community college. She was doing very well, owned her own house outright as well as several others that she rented. She was still dating the same guy, and they still had a very difficult relationship, which I had told her over and over to leave, way back in 1998.

I told her again to leave him, and that she had a great family that would support her no matter what. She said she’d try, but it was so hard and I couldn’t understand.

I never chatted again with her after that one afternoon phone call in 2022.

This afternoon, I decided to look her up with a burner account on fb since I had switched phones several times over the last few years and no longer had her number. My plan was to introduce her to Nostr, and help get her interested in selling her pottery on Plebeian Market.

I’m sure she knew about Bitcoin already, being as ahead of the curve financially as she was at the age of 19, but I was prepped to introduce her to it.

I had a whole laundry list of great stuff to tell her about when I saw the posting about her murder.

In December of 2022, her boyfriend came into her office with a gun, shot her, then shot himself. There was a GoFundMe page to raise money for her funeral expenses.

Life turns on a dime. Look up an old friend. Don’t wait for something else to happen.

Just hand delivered this to the client since she’s in town! Another happy customer!

It’s like the Cheers of the internet, except nobody knows your name.

#grownostr

Why did I buy this? 100 sats to the winner #plebchain #grownostr

C’mon folks, THIS is what brings people to Nostr.

Not that its a protocol.

Not that it’s censorship resistant.

Not that it has zaps.

Its when they see REAL STUFF here.

Real folks are making and inventing stuff here, building heaters that mine sats while keeping your room warm, 3D printing doo dads, knitting socks, painting pictures, binding books, making soaps, keeping bees, and the list goes on and on.

Plus the community offers to help each other out with the technical details and setup of just about anything!

The STUFF catches peoples eye, then they find out that Nostr has features that just don’t exist anywhere else.

That’s where the developers come in. They’re the ones who are upgrading the features of Nostr that make it like a mini internet where you can listen to music, shop, read, and socialize without Skynet deciding what brands you’re going to advertise for them.

People aren’t going to come to Nostr because of Bitcoin. That discussion isn’t a welcome mat for anyone. Everything is too expensive, and people dont want to join a bitch session about WHY everything is too expensive.

They want to see awesome people making cool stuff, being supportive of one another, solving problems, inventing new stuff that serves multiple purposes, focusing on quality over quantity, and not begging for likes and subscriptions.

#grownostr

See this is what I’m talking about.

can you imagine someone sending a “hey, welcome back!” message to a friend after not seeing them online for a bit on Fb or x or substack ?

No, of course not.

There’s a sense of community here on Nostr that you simply don’t see in other places because we’re not too busy shouting about the newest Bluetooth earbuds or whatever TikTok video is trending.

#grownostr

While legacy social media scrambles to identify new trends in fast fashion and how to get rich quick by taking online surveys, Nostr provides a steady stream of thoughtful, inspiring material that reflects its users’ commitment to the future of humanity. #grownostr

Looks like BTC has been slammin at the arcade today! #grownostr

Looks like someone shredded hard on Asteroids too! #grownostr

It will survive long after us.

Good morning everyone! #gm #pv #grownostr

It’s been a little while since i signed up for a paid relay and tried curating the relays that I am using, and have been pleasantly surprised with the results.

Its a big ask for newcomers to sign up for what’s basically five bucks a month for quality connections instead of an impenetrable flood of crap with the default relays.

That’s how it goes with traditional social media, though in a different way. There, you pay for the privilege of having your posts seen instead of lost in a rushing river of influencer followers.

I abandoned traditional social media before it got that way, so that’s just what I’ve heard.

Here, you pay not to see the same useless crap and nsfw stuff popping up.

All that said, five bucks a month isn’t too bad, and Nostr doesn’t ask for a retinal scan and a blood sample.

Your identity is still yours, and you get immediate results in your feed.

Thanks guys. I do appreciate your support of my artwork and efforts.

ADVICE FOR THOSE NEW TO NOSTR

#plebchain #grownostr #bitcoin

Printing All the Way #grownostr #plebchain

I’m not a dev, but this is my version of building something unexpected and cool.

Started with a Casio Duro.

Removed the dial so all branding is gone.

Added a 33mm blank dial from another skeletonized watch since it had a large center opening (originally to see an automatic movement) that would work to expose the entire date wheel and tiny holes that line up with 1,2,4,5,7,8,10,11.

The current date is whatever is at 3 o’clock.

Replaced the hands.

Replaced the chapter ring. I like having it ever-so-slightly off center.

Put the caseback back on.

Voila. Now i have the quartz equivalent of a skeletonized watch. No branding, no apps, no connectivity, no wifi, just the time and date.

Screwdown crown, 200m water resistant, unidirectional 120-click bezel, stainless steel case, 22mm lugs.

As soon as i find someone to cut some metal dials for me I’m gonna make more random watches like this. They’ll be 150k sats. DM me if you work with metal. #watchstr #artstr #grownostr #plebchain

The difference between other social media and Nostr is this.

Everywhere else, people brag about the places they live and the crap they have, leaving their viewers feeling envious because they don’t have as much fiat stuffs.

Here, there’s people TRYING to sell their houses and other cool stuff they made, not bragging about it.

Shout out to #asknostr for quick responses to questions and solid advice from everyone. Maybe at some point I’ll have enough to buy something with sats. Just wanted to say a big Thank You to all the folks here that have popped up with info and tips to get me up and running with Mutiny.

It might still take me a little while, so bear with me.

Just asking a question with #asknostr is TREE(3)x better than calling a Customer Service number and being in a 45-minute queue to hopefully talk to someone who will read you a script.

Because with #asknostr , you’re asking 10,000+ people the question AT THE SAME TIME … and more than half of them are tech pros!
