Well, fellow knitters, I have gotten it into my head to knit a lacy shawl for son's girlfriend for Chistmas. I sent him a few options and we have made our choice. I got the pattern and there are a few bits that confuse me. Anyone willing/able to help? Thankfully it is both written and charted.

So remember the resurrected green cardi? Well, I counted the pick up stitches from the bottom and did the same thing on the top. Then I recalculated the increases and did bust darts. Yay me, right?

Well, not so much. I now have way too many stitches across the back so the fake side seams are over an inch too far forward on either side before blocking.

Yes, I am going to have to pull all of the top back. I don't particularly want to, but she's wonky right now.

Well, I decided to be smart and give it a block to make sure everything is as it should be first (I was worried that the waistband was too short and would have to be fixed before I moved forward). Turns out it's fine. So on to picking up stitches, right?

You may see on the pattern that I have made many notes (some of which I no longer understand) but what I don't seem to have written down is how many stitches I picked up...

I'm a solid three right now. Wasn't teaching today so I got everything ready for tomorrow's open house at school. Should take no more than half an hour to set up and tear down.

Now I'm going to go put on some pjs and knit until bedtime.

Almost bought these slippers to see how Farah would react but it just wasn't 24$ funny to me. Now at half that price...

For any of the sock knitters here, Biscotte now has a plain sock pattern generating app. They used to have one years ago, but the app stores required regular updates and it wasn't in the budget so they abandonned it. They now have used ai to speed up the process (but the owner still test knit everything to make sure the math is mathing). She will be adding more options, like different heel constructions, and is thinking of doing others, like for mittens, hats, and maybe even plain sweaters.

and other yarny friends, I am having a yarny dilemma. I got a fair amount back from my income taxes. Now I could be responsible and put it in my retirement savings or something, but that does not sound like fun (and I do put money in that regularly). I am very temped by the Biscotte advent box (yes, it's spendy, but I can afford it). Now, I haven't had a lot of joy with surprise yarn and stuff, but the box is a clue to the colourways and it is sooooo pretty. No, I don't need more yarn, but that has never stopped me before.

So now I have to decide whether or not to go for it...
