The #1950s #fantasy only worked for a #minority — everyone else paid for it
The “traditional patriarchal golden age” was #never #universal
It worked for:
a #small mostly #white , mostly #male mostly #middle-class
#subsidized by #cheap labor, #unpaid labor, and outright #exploitation
Everyone else:
#women people of #color #immigrants the #poor #children #colonized #populations
…either #worked themselves to the bone or lived under someone else’s boot.
The system didn’t run on #masculine virtue.
It ran on #invisible #labor
