The giants filled the Earth with violence.

They could not return to Heaven.

Its wheels shone like the Sun.

Streams of fire flowed from beneath it.

His clothing appeared brighter than the Sun and whiter than snow.

No angel could enter fully into His presence.

Enoch fell upon his face.

Then a voice commanded him to rise.

🚫 THE ANSWER TO THE WATCHERS

The message was not forgiveness.

The Watchers descended from Heaven.

They took human wives.

From those unions came enormous and violent offspring—commonly identified as the #Nephilim.

WHAT DOES “NEPHILIM” MEAN?

The exact meaning is debated.

It is often connected with the Hebrew root naphal, meaning “to fall.”

This has produced interpretations such as:

“The fallen ones.”

“Those who cause others to fall.”

“Giants.”

But the Hebrew Bible itself does not give us a definition.

THE BIBLICAL VERSION:

Genesis says the “sons of God” took wives from the “daughters of humanity.”

The Nephilim were upon the Earth during this period and were remembered as mighty figures of ancient times.

The Book of Enoch expands it.

THE ENOCH VERSION:

The Watchers took human wives and taught them sorcery, charms and knowledge of plants and roots.

Their bodies could be destroyed—but according to Enoch, their spirits remained upon the Earth.

THE ORIGIN OF EVIL SPIRITS:

Enoch says the spirits emerging from the dead bodies of the giants became evil spirits upon the Earth.

They would afflict, oppress, attack and mislead humanity until the final judgment.

This is one ancient Jewish explanation for the origin of destructive spirits:
