I wrapped up my time at Verse a few weeks ago and I’m taking some time to figure out what’s next.

I’m especially interested in human rights and climate action, and I’d love to help out at a nonprofit or mission-driven org—places like ACLU, Amnesty International, Sierra Club, 350.org, or others doing meaningful work. Whether it’s coaching leaders or making process improvements, I love helping nonprofits to make things run more smoothly so they can focus more on their mission.

If you're at a nonprofit of any sort, let's chat. And if you know someone doing this kind of work, I’d really appreciate an intro or a share. Thanks!

I’m not sure I completely agree that ClickUp has this right. Work is broken? Maybe. Probably. But “app-switching fragments work, steals time, and kills productivity”? I’m not sure about that. I get a lot more work done when I don’t have Mail or Slack open. Having them integrated in a single app seems like more of a productivity killer than switching between apps.

This is one of the nice things about Nostr, actually. I want to switch between a variety of smaller, more focused apps to do specific things.

Really enjoying the Dart course from Code with Andrea. I’ve learned a lot of Dart in the few hours I’ve spent with it. Well worth the time and money.

Another email with this phrase: “we apologise for any inconvenience”.

Don’t apologize for any inconvenience — just acknowledge that this is inconvenient and say you’re sorry!

(I don’t actually care about my book coming late — I just care about good customer service, and this email missed the mark.)

Sunsama is great. I’m not sure why I never planned my days before, but now that I am, it’s awesome. I feel like I can actually get the important things done and forget the rest (until tomorrow, or next week, or whenever).

Give it a shot if you feel like you’re constantly reacting to things that aren’t as important as the things you really need to do.

Hat tip to

for introducing me to it!

Damus crashes on launch for me on macOS 14.7.2 (23H311). Well, it started when I logged in — it crashed immediately after I pasted my key and clicked the Login button. Now whenever I launch it just crashes. I deleted it and reinstalled; still crashing on launch. Is there something I can do to clear data and try again?

If the Right to Vanish is important to you, you can do it with

on iOS.

I’m super excited that we were able to release this, and can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the new lists feature!

I recently bought an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite — my first ereader — and have been reading Radical Candor on it. So far, I’m loving how I can highlight things without ruining the book. As much as I love reading on paper, I never wanted to destroy a book by marking it up with notes or highlights. It’s nice to feel totally free to do this, and the Paperwhite makes it really easy to highlight text.

Maybe I should just get over myself and mark up paper books, but I guess that would require buying rather than borrowing and I’m not sure I want to do that.

I started reading Radical Candor on

’s recommendation and I’m loving it so far. I’ve been trying to be a little more direct and a little clear on what I want, need, or expect at work.

Yes! In A Bit of Optimism where Simon Sinek interviewed her, they talked about how this is useful for dealing with adults, too! The Simon Sinek interview is quite a bit shorter, so it might be a good option if you don’t have ~3 hours to listen.

This is why I work on Nostr.

Enjoyed this post about X, Nostr, Mastodon, and others:

I do wonder about this — everyone says this, but I’m not sure why:

"Do regular users really need to think about public and private keys? Yes, yes, I get it — users have to keep in mind their privacy if they want to have it. But you have to read at least something to understand what you're doing, which is automatically more difficult than simply press ‘Sign up’.”

Do regular users really need to think about public and private keys? Why?

This. The weird onboarding process for Nostr is a serious issue, but not an unsolvable one. We can figure this out.

Started re-reading Badass: Making Users Awesome and absolutely love the caption on this image:

Yep, it’s really cool to have my Nos Team list and my Nostr Devs list in addition to the list of everyone I’m following. Sometimes I just want to check in on my team and see what they’re posting, and now I can do that with

!

👋 hey, Linda mentioned that you (or someone on your team) might be willing to talk with us about some technical details around Nostr apps in general. Specifically, we’re looking at implementing some automated tests for scroll performance in Nos for iOS and I’d love to know if the Primal team has any experience with those. Thanks in advance!

A lot of this article rings true and aligns with other things I’ve been seeing, hearing, and reading.

Along these lines, we recently had the Surgeon General’s Parting Prescription for America, and the Join or Die documentary on Netflix. It sure sounds like the consensus is that self-imposed solitude is destroying our health and happiness.

So: what do you think? Are we doomed to unhappiness if we don’t spend time with people in real life?

Thanks to

for sharing the Atlantic article with the team and to

for sharing the documentary.

Yes! Cursor and Warp have both been awesome for me, too, by generating a lot of code that would’ve taken me too long to figure out on my own.

Nos 1.1 is a big upgrade — maybe bigger than the version indicates. The ability to see a feed of notes from just photographers, or my team at Nos, or developers, or whatever group of people I create is really cool.

Had a great time swimming with the sea lions at Isla de Lobos in Uruguay. There must have been hundreds of them — you can see some on the sand, on the rocks, and in the water.

Yes! First of all, if you ever get the chance to pair with

, take it! And second, I had no idea Warp existed and now it’s the only terminal I use. I absolutely love it! Give it a shot!

This take from Karnage makes sense to me — for creativity to happen, you need to love your work and your workplace needs to be fun.

After a week with my first vertical mouse, I’m feeling good. I’d been using the Apple Magic Mouse for years because I like the way it looks. I know, I know — not a great reason to keep using a mouse that’s ergonomically terrible for me. Then I found the Logitech Lift, and I actually like the way it looks. So far, it feels nice and doesn’t cause cramping in my hand. I still need to figure out how to gently rest my hand on my desk while using it (I had the same problem with my old mouse), but maybe someday an ergonomics expert will visit and solve it for me. At least I don’t get cramps with this one.

I'm using list.lol which is awesome -- thanks for building it! I'm having an issue where I can't update my list -- any time I make any update, it says "Something went wrong. Please try again." at the top of the screen. I'm using the Nostore extension in Safari on my Mac; maybe something wrong there? I can't add or remove people from my lists.

Nothing Phone 2a. I’ve never said this before about an Android device, but I love the hardware design. It’s unique, it’s beautiful, it has personality. I could actually see myself carrying one of these.

sometimes when I type joshbrown.photos in Safari to visit my npub.pro site, it redirects to www.joshbrown.photos and refreshes continuously. I’m not sure if I have an issue with my DNS settings or if something is going on with npub.pro. Do you have thoughts? Of course it was just doing it for me but after I started typing this message, the issue stopped.

Watched a beautiful sunset from Punta Ballena in Uruguay after a lovely tour of Casa Pueblo.

Hey, thanks so much for open-sourcing Nostrmo! We’re looking at the NIP-29 groups features and they’re working really well for me. I’m curious what fixes you made to flutter_link_previewer in your local environment. Would that be something you could share, maybe in a fork of flutter_link_previewer?

It’s always been about community for me, and it always will be.

This is kind of a big deal.

Oh I’d love to see the results of this after more people respond! Answer and repost!

Excited that Nos is now available in the Australia and New Zealand App Stores!

I’m trying to add a custom domain to my npub.pro site and I keep getting this error: "Error: Error: Failed to attach domain”. Are you able to help me determine what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!

Some nice changes to how we show images and videos in Nos. I’m totally biased, and I think they make the feed look awesome.
