“Technology only becomes mainstream when users stop noticing it.”
Spacebear, Contributor at Payjoin Foundation, speaking at The Bitcoin Conference 2026, argued that Bitcoin privacy’s biggest obstacle is no longer cryptography, it’s user experience.
His comparison to HTTPS was revealing. Most internet users don’t consciously think about encrypted web traffic because the standard became invisible infrastructure embedded directly into browsers and applications. He believes Bitcoin privacy must evolve the same way.
Instead of forcing users to navigate between ARC, eCash, shielded systems, or Lightning implementations, wallets should quietly default to methods that are more private, cheaper, and more scalable behind the scenes.
The structural takeaway: ✅ UX friction limits privacy adoption more than protocol availability ✅ Invisible infrastructure drives mainstream behavioral change ✅ Wallets increasingly shape Bitcoin’s functional experience ✅ Standardization may matter more than new feature creation
The broader implication is that the next phase of Bitcoin adoption may depend less on inventing new tools and more on hiding complexity well enough that users never need to think about it.
