I'm not doing much road racing anymore, but oh my, altra just dropped a new road show with a 4mm drop. Uoh If you are looking for a wider toe box an zero to low drop, this brand had been my go to for road trainers for the last three years or so. I do still love my Topos but I think altra getting into the low drop game won me over. Guess I should leave my bed now and do Monday things.

Hit the local trails for 5.25 miles tonight. Hit a new to me path even. Sprinkles for the last mile and a half or so, but I beat the rain. Leaves are starting to do their autumn things but it's still pretty warm, so I'll give it another week or two before we see the true beauty of fall in my neighborhood. #poastgains

Got the back and side yard today. Met some of the squatters on my property.

Took a week off to try and let things heal, but meh the sciatica is still doing sciatic things. Ankle is even a bit swollen after turning it doing yardwork over the weekend. 7.75 miles on the trails tonight. It was a gross run with like 70% humidity but the rain came in just as I got my trail shoes off and my driving shoes on. I let it fall on me for maybe ten minutes. Baptism by nature. I can work with that. Add two 1.5 mile dog walks and I'm at 588.5 miles for the year. I think I've decided on a November race for my next ultra fundraiser. #poastgains #bloomscrolling

Effort Poast: In my last timeline, When I would come home to share when something awesome happened or I did something cool related to my running adventures, I would get a hand wank gesture most times, literally, not figuratively, not joking. I didn't realize at the time how dismissive and hurtful that really was. I have spent the last 9 months feeling guilty like my running may have been the cause for the dissolution of an almost 14 year relationship. Like I still can't even get on a treadmill or go to the gym without breaking down. My relationship with my favorite mental health outlet was so fucked up over processing the end of that relationship. I actually gave up competitive disc golf like two years in after his absolute dogging of me during casual rounds and during tournament play. It was my favorite sport for 10 years before we got together. He never once went to see me play vintage base ball. I sew my own dresses then play 1860s base ball in them. Again, hand wank gesture almost every time i invited him. I found out today that my image is highlighted regarding the retard race i just ran. Like the accomplishment visualized with me at the finish line after running all night on a course I'd never visited is the cover photo for the official online album today. My friends are carrying me as i carry on, learning to let go of the guilt and fear of fucking up.

I know a Handsome Man who once waxed for some time at my table on bees and beekeeping. His eyes were very alive and I kinda got lost in them. GM. I am truly hopeless. #bloomscrolling

My friend passed away today. He was one of the guys who welcomed me heartily when I joined the team. He leaves a legacy of kindness and camaraderie in his corner of the world that touched mine.

There are a few reasons I will never become a competitive ultra matathoner. Two of them are articulated quite succinctly right here.

Effortpoast: Race went well. Got dive bombed by bats twice had a raccoon fall from a tree and almost land on me.
First six miles were paved bike path so I caught some time with 10:00 pace until I hit the technical portion. Took a wrong turn around midnight and ran six bonus miles. Was running on pace to finish around 13:00-13:30 until then. Ended up just under 15. Not disappointed at all. 4500 ft of climb. It was the deep decents that killed me. I couldn't feel my feet, aside from the shooting pain of a blistered toe pushing against my shoe, after about 3am so I didn't trust my self to run downhill much. Final four miles was streets through town, 12:00 ish pace from miles 46-50. Still had a little leg apparently, no death march to the finish. Feels good man. And I only lost three pounds which means I'm getting better at the concurrent eating contest. Idk if you've ever tried to ingest calories after like 20 miles of running let alone 40, but that is a challenge all its own. High fived a few people along the way. Got some high fives at the finish line and the coffee from the shop across the street was fantastic, five shot latte got me home without falling asleep at the wheel. Standard recovery pizza was had for dinner. I just just finished catching 12 or 13 hours of sleep. GM 525.75 for the year. #poastgains

Saw Fire Walk With Me, it was very very good. You might not want to hear this but the message of the movie was very conservative (religious morals are necessary to keep the true nature of woman in check, and Laura has to atone for her sin in breaking those morals) and the 'controversial' casting decisions made sense in the context of the film: Moira kelly's donna was a character who was a child when she followed Laura to the road house and has experienced the horror of red room which has prematurely aged her appearance (think about those photos of girls who were enlisted into brothels and their gaunt, haunted appearance after the sex work). It's actually very clever casting. David Bowie's Jeffries is at the climax of the movie revealed to have never really been there even though Gordon and Coop saw him being in the FBI headquarters, with the point being that he is trying to make them remember and come to terms with the mortal sin man committed creating the atomic bomb. As for BOB, the TV show specifically states that he's raping was just an excuse to collect what was actually creamed corn and the movie outright says that Leland's no great hero with Phillip Gerard himself telling Laura that it's her father doing these things. The only two things I had an issue with was the pacing of the action (which is sort of built into the running time of a theatrical movie so there's not much that can be done about it) and what at some times was stilted writing.
