NostrArtstr

I’m taking a break from hosting art challenges on this account starting in January 2026. 🌊

If you’re looking for monthly art challenges, this is a good place to start: https://kickinthecreatives.com/art-challenges-list-by-month/

If you want daily prompt lists, Doodlewash has you covered (it focuses on watercolor, but you can use the prompts for whatever media you want to work in): https://doodlewash.com/watercolor-art-challenges/

Instagram is a good place for artist-led challenges and a general search can give you results from past years, which you can pull ideas from to mix up your own personal art challenge. 🎨🖌️

Whether you “finish” an art challenge or just make one thing, if you created more art than month by attempting an art challenge than you would have without it, You Win!!! 🏆

#art #artstr #artchallenge

Happy December!!! A month of many things, as you can tell because I’m posting this on the 3rd instead of the 1st. 😅

In the spirit of that spirit, this month’s art challenge is an easy one: Post a piece of art you created in 2025.

That’s it.

Use the hashtag #nostrartstrDec2025 if you like.

Use this tracker if you like.

It’s pretty satisfying to put a big check in that box after you post and know, if nothing else happened to get done that day, you’ve completed the NostrArtstr December Art Challenge!!!! 🎉🫂💜

PS. If you didn’t have a chance to create art this year, do you want to make art in 2026?

Happy November! 🍁

A traditional November Art challenge is #huevember where each day is associated with a specific color. Keith Ryan has a great breakdown on his website: https://www.keithryanstudio.com - he also made a color chart with hex values for the digital art folks.

I’m going to get back to

calendar art challenge of month-specific artwork for 2026 - check out her profile for more info.

Whether you take on an art challenge or not, I hope you make time this month to create. 💜🫂

Halfway through October so still time to jump in on

calendar art challenge! 🗓️

Not up for creating 12 pieces or art? How about 6? Or 4? Or 3? All very nice numbers which can be laid out with date grids for your 2026 personal art calendar.

Or even just 1 bit of art, more than you would have made otherwise; that’s all it takes to win an art challenge. 🏆

#art #artstr #artchallenge #grownostr #calendar

Happy October!!!!!

This month is filled with all kinds of art challenge prompt lists, from the official Inktober, to a range of themes including fall, books, and birds.

Or go classic Halloween 🎃 or even cute Halloween. 👻

Here are a few prompt lists from Instagram if you’d like something to help you create art this month ….

You don’t have to make something every day - if, at the end of the month, you made more art following a challenge than you would have without, then you win!!! 🏆

Here it is: a 12 week art challenge by

🎉

Be sure to use the #2026CalendarChallenge hashtag so folks can see your progress- even if you only do a single piece of art, that can absolutely be turned into a calendar display!

#art #artstr #artchallenge #calendar #grownostr

For September (and a bit longer), NostrArtstr will be supporting

art challenge to help you create art that can become a calendar!

More details to come.

If you’re interested in an easy, 5 day art challenge to end your August, Amy Maricle is running The Simplest Thing: https://mindfulartstudio.com/simplestthing2025 - from August 25-29.

Email required for sign up so you can receive the journal prompts.

I’ve done Amy’s Inchie Challenge and some of her Slow Drawing sessions and really enjoyed them.

I’ll have

art challenges ready for the rest of the months this year, so Amy’s Simplest Thing could be a fun warm-up if you took a Summer break like I did. 🎨

#artchallenge #art #artstr #grownostr #august

I’m taking August off from doing an art challenge, but if you’d like to participate in one, here are some ideas ….

Smaugust - dragon art

Dogust - dog art

If you want a prompt list, Doodlewash has a new one every month: https://doodlewash.com/august-2025-art-challenge/

And Kick in the Creatives has an animal prompt list for August: https://kickinthecreatives.com/31-animals-august/

As always, this is just a suggestion - make any art you want: once a day or only once.

If you’ve made more art by the end of the month by participating in an art challenge than you would have, you win! 🫂💜

#nostrartstrJune2025 - Hot & Cold Hemispheres! 🌎🌏

For June 2025, I wanted to create an art challenge with themes that resonate for nostriches on both halves of the planet.

June 20th is the Summer or Winter solstice, depending where you live.

So for this month, I have a prompt list that can be interpreted as hot 🔥or cold 🧊; there’s two graphics (same prompt list) in case having a temperature-appropriate visual helps you create. 🏝️🗻

There’s also 2 color palettes, and a tracker.

As always, these are just suggestions- make any art you want: once a day or only once.

If you’ve made more art by the end of the month by participating in this art challenge than you would have, you win! 🫂💜

Please use the #nostrartstrJune2025 hashtag so other folks can find your work this month.

If flowers aren’t your thing and merfolk are, check out the yearly art challenge of MerMay: https://www.mermay.com #artstr #art #artchallenge #mermay

#nostrartstrMay2025 - Flowers! 💐

For May 2025, I have a color palette (the most popular flower colors), 31 flower prompts, and a two page tracker of flower icons that match the prompt list (which also makes for fun coloring pages)! 🎉

All of those are just suggestions- make any art you want: once a day or only once.

If you’ve made more art by the end of the month by participating in this art challenge than you would have, you win! 🫂💜

#nostrartstrApril2025 - Celebrating Cycles!

For April 2025, I have a color palette, 6 textual prompts, and 6 related photos, to help you create something to celebrate the cycles we experience on this planet.

Create anything you want - a daily thing, or work all month on a single big project.

Use the tracker to celebrate your progress. I have a lot going on this month, so I'm going to try for 6 art things, one for each prompt, and just color in all 5 slots on the tracker at once.

Consider the color palette and the prompts as guidelines.

Remember, if you’ve made more art at the end of the month playing along with this art challenge than you would have otherwise, you win the art challenge.

#nostrartstrFeb2025 - Time to Color Our Collections!!!

From 2017-2024, libraries around the world contributed PDFs of coloring pages based on documents/maps/books/etc. from their vast collections: https://library.nyam.org/colorourcollections/

You can browse the PDFs in chronological order from the home pages of the website maintained by the New York Academy of Medicine, or go to the “Tools & Resources” page and checkout the column on the right that contains a lists of PDFs by year, and access to every library that has ever contributed to the project.

Take some time this month to express yourself without worrying about what to draw - just add color to some history!

The 100 Day Project has announced the start date for 2025 is February 23th …. which makes the end date June 3rd. 😅

https://the100dayproject.substack.com

I’ve tried this art challenge more times than I’ve actually finished it, but it’s fun to plan and see how far I get.

And, as with all art challenges I take on, I create more art than if I hadn’t tried, so that is always a Win. 🏆

I’ll have separate art challenges just for NostrArtstr for every month, but wanted to let you know about the 100 Day Project in case you want to give it a go.

If you'd like to see all of the art I've been creating for the January Month of Good Mornings art challenge, you can check out my Creatr profile here: https://creatr.nostr.wine/profile/npub1jdtdqz9tyf4tdvy2k0rnjqz5dv5rd3yvw5nlpefn9syjqx37dhyqxwh0c8

All of the finished art are public posts, open for anyone to see. These are 6” x 4.5” on mixed media paper.

The “Subscribe to unlock” posts are process notes with photos of the supplies I used and the steps I took to create each of the finished artworks.

I’ve hand-draw a few of the GM text, though most are printed from the PDF that is also available to subscribers.

If you want to join the art challenge, share your art with the hashtag #nostrartstrJan2025 - thanks!!!

Happy New Year!!! For January 2025 the NostrArtstr Art Challenge is A Month of Good Mornings.

Add “GM” to your art and share with the hashtag #nostrartstrJan2025

Here’s a free 31 day tracker for you to download and print to track your progress.

The Goal of these art challenges is, by the end of the month, to have created more art than you would have without taking on the challenge. So whether or finish 1 or 31 pieces, you win. And if you create one a day, you are more disciplined than me, because I usually binge and do a few every day. ;)

If you’d like to see how one person did a single color challenge, check out this video playlist from Ten Hundred: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjvuq1J91QkYE2Nv-QQopXXv0mPKsagKh

He painted some awesome stuff using shades and tones of a single color. There are 4 videos: pink, green, blue, and yellow.

And if you thought TurdSoup.com gives you interesting random word prompts, this guy got his prompts from doing an Instagram Live, so yeah, lots of stuff going on in his paintings.
