“There are still benefits to alternate protocols existing… if for no other reason than bringing new ideas to the table that force the more popular protocols to compete. We’ve already seen how effective the competition between ActivityPub and AT Proto has been, and the biggest winners have been the people using the protocols. The endgame is not any one protocol or platform; the endgame is finding the right tools to connect to the people you care about, and helping them to do the same.”

I agree with every idea
advocates for here.
A European digital sovereignty movement that is all based on close source European owned solutions vs American tech is not the solution. That’s trading one dependency for another.
The solution is open protocols and offerings not owned by any single company. #opensocialweb #opensource #ooenprotocol

Not suprising in the least but disappointing to see Reddit move the wrong way. Less open, killing public API, ending RSS. #enshitification commences in a speed run.
Looking forward to #Piefed and rest of #Threadiverse to work to take advantage of this moment.
Scott Galloway said he thought #Bluesky "cute and adorable & will die a slow & painful death " While noting that's "just vibes I haven't looked at the data... "I think it is a better brand than a business right now." (While he does praise small, independent digital players and newsletter platforms.)
While some Fediverse folks might applaud such a dark view of Bluesky's outcome, my view is no one who cares about the open social web should root for their failing 1 of 2.

I'm still getting my head around how this would actually work:
"co/core is a place where people share the compute they already own to run AI for each other, instead of renting from a handful of giant providers. It's an experiment in inference we build, share, and own together — and your existing code works as-is, because we speak the same standard API everything else does. I like this a lot:
"More true is to say that early internet champions were alive to the importance of the internet, and therefore both excited about the possibilities of the internet to deliver a world of connection, idiosyncrasy, love and solidarity; and about the danger of the internet as a dystopian system of surveillance and manipulation... If I were starting over to the Fediverse I think I'd likely make this my primary account. As it is, I have a secondary account for testing and learning from what #HolosSocial is building.
Q. if one day the Holos Social relay were to go away, would the only recourse for users be to move accounts to another mastodon server? if the user made his domain his account name, could that even work?

Fully endorse this article from Newsmast. They are doing crucial work in this space and everyone that cares about the open social web should learn from their efforts. Expecially like this:

I think "AGI" or Artifical General Intelligence will be like nuclear fusion, perpetually 5 to 10 years away. A keen observation from Laurens, and the #OpenSocialWeb needs both of these:
"If you read that statement with the fediverse and the atmosphere in mind, this is almost a diagram of the two ways the project can fail. Subsidiarity without solidarity is fragmentation: a thousand instances each guarding their own place, with no shared obligation or collaboration, with no place to maintain the commons that is the network itself. I know that in some quarters of both the Bluesky and Fediverse side of the #OpenSocialWeb there is a justifiably allergic reaction to AI. I get it and share it. But I'm becoming more convinced than ever at this: if we in the open social web space don't build our own healthy, safe and fair versions of #AgenticWeb interactions here, it will be defined and done for and to us. The $1.5 Billion Butterfly Effect: How eBay’s Acquisition of PayPal as a "Butterfly Effect"
I was having breakfast with a friend today, and we fell down a rabbit hole: How different would our country—and the world—be today if eBay hadn’t chosen to adopt, and eventually acquire, PayPal in 2002? So hopeful for these trials to create a vaccine for some of the deadliest of #cancer:
“BNT122 is the candidate more ambitious...A sample of the patient's tumor is taken, the genome is sequenced to identify up to 20 unique mutations,& a personalized mRNA vaccine is built that contains the instructions to produce exactly those tumor proteins.
