DAY 1/17; THE JOURNEY TO THE NELSON MANDELA HALF MARATHON 🏃🏾♂️🌧️🔥
October 18th starts today.
At 5:30am, while most of the world was still asleep, we stepped out into the darkness and the rain for our training run towards the Nelson Mandela Half Marathon in Cape Town.
10km. In the rain. Before sunrise. 🌧️
It would have been easy to stay in bed. To wait for better weather. To tell ourselves, “We’ll start tomorrow.”
But every marathon begins long before race day. It begins with a decision; the decision to show up when nobody is watching, to keep going when conditions aren’t perfect, and to trust the process even when the finish line still feels far away.
Today wasn’t just a 10km run.
It was a commitment.
A commitment to discipline over comfort. A commitment to consistency over excuses. A commitment to becoming stronger, one kilometre at a time. A commitment to honoring the journey as much as the destination.
There will be hard mornings ahead. There will be tired legs, difficult kilometres, rain, wind, doubt and days when motivation disappears.
But that’s exactly where the transformation happens.
We don’t become a marathoner on race day. We become one every morning we choose to get up and run.
So this is Day 1.
One run. One step. One kilometre. One promise to ourselves at a time.
October 18th, we’re coming. 🏃🏾♂️🔥
The road to 21.1km has officially begun.
