I feel really lucky to be living in a mountain town where nature is so accessible.

I remember sitting by Rio Chirripo in Costa Rica and having this moment.

I imagined myself as just one water particle in the river, floating along in the river, following the flow until I reached the ocean.

but then I asked myself, “What if I’m not separate from the whole? What if I am the river, not just a particle?”.

this thought has stuck with me since then and I find it so profound. I and the world are not separate. you and me are not separate.

we are one. 🦋

spending time in nature is so valuable, not only for our health, but for our souls. nature is the best teacher. go sit with her for a while and I promise you, she will teach you something new.

in just a little over a month, we will be spending 3 months in Africa and I’ve started spending time learning Amharic.

the people here are so kind. so warm. they have great smiles. and they cook really, really good food.

it’s a slow Sunday so decided to make a yummy soup using all organic, locally grown vegetables.

nothing makes my heart happier than spending time in the kitchen, being present in the process, & enjoying the fruits of my labor after it’s all said and done. ❣️

honest thoughts…

we have now been in Portugal for a little over a week now and it’s been an adjustment.

in Costa Rica, I felt my nervous system was regulated, my time barefoot in grass was most of my day, and the access to pure nature was right out my door.

now that we’ve been in a city, I have felt my nervous system “speed up” a bit. my breathing seems shallower, my jaw is tighter, and I feel just uptight.

it seems like such a challenge, to slow down & re-center when everything around you is busy and noisy, people rushing here and there.

I’m finding that taking big, deep, conscious breaths throughout the day helps. and making sure to get sunlight.

I’m learning. and integrating what I learned in Costa Rica to everyday life.

it’s not easy. but I’m taking it day by day.

surfing has always been something I’ve wanted to try, and being here in Costa Rica has been the perfect time to give it a go.

the feeling of being out there in the water, feeling the pull and push of the tide, and the occasional water up the nose has made me feel so alive and connected to nature.

a couple of days ago, I caught my first 3 footer and rode the face. I had goosebumps, happy tears, and an overwhelming sense of being in sync with nature. a feeling I will never forget.

the few times I’ve surfed this trip, I’ve learned that you have to leave the ego behind, stay present in the moment, & just have fun.

starting the day with mobility on the beach and an amazing surf sesh might be the best way to start the day that I’ve ever experienced…

starting this Wednesday with sun on my face and salt in my hair. 🌊

Spring of 2021: this was the last picture we took of us in our home.

when I see this picture, I have a hard time believing this was “our life”.

steady careers, a 4 bedroom home, suburban neighborhood, & a path that seemed “figured out”.

but in the inner core of our beings, there was a stirring. a curiosity of, “What if there’s actually more to life than having a big home and careers?”

we had to make a decision. to stay on the path of a settled life or listen to that inner voice guiding us to a path that was unknown.

I’m really proud of the two people in this photo… for being brave and making decisions with conviction.

take some time today to look back and appreciate where you came from.

One thing I’m learning is that the more I strain for focus or ideas, the more disconnected I feel.

When I pause, recenter, go outside and let myself just be, something shifts. I begin to notice what’s already before me. And it feels the most natural and true. 🌿🌺🫶🏼
