Tuta

On #GlobalEncryptionDay 🔒 we stand strong against encryption backdoors! 💪

We've just fought #ChatControl & we'll continue to fight wherever #encryption is under threat. But today we'd like to celebrate that 61% of all Tuta emails are sent end-to-end encrypted - a huge win for privacy. 🔥

📣This is your reminder that the fight against #ChatControl is still NOT over yet📣

Last month the negotiations for ChatControl 2.0 failed. Thanks to your support #ChatControl 2.0 and #masssurveillance don't happen🥳

However, the battle is still NOT over yet as the threat remains to keep ChatControl 1.0 as a permanent legislation beyond April 2028😡

Negotiations for this are planned to continue in November which is why we at Tuta will continue our fight ✊

🇩🇪 Today we celebrate #GermanUnityDay – a victory over oppression & mass surveillance.

But history warns us: #ChatControl could bring surveillance back at a scale East Germany could only have dreamed of.

Let’s defend freedom & say NO to #ChatControl! ✊

We did it: The EU Parliament continues to OPPOSE #ChatControl 2.0! 🥳

Thanks everyone for writing to representatives. 🫶

The next trilogue is scheduled for November, we must make sure that end-to-end encryption and private communication remains to be protected!

#privacy

🚨🇪🇺 The #ChatControl trilogue starts on Tuesday & the EU Council is trying to pressure Parliament into giving up its opposition. We must stop them once again! 💪🏼

And the proposed compromise isn't targeted policing, it is mass surveillance!

Because no matter the framing, the truth remains the same: There's no backdoor for the good guys only!

We at Tuta will continue to fight for your right to #privacy. Make your voice heard as well, today is the day!

Next Tuesday, a permanent decision on Chat Control 2.0 could be made. 😡 If passed, this means your private chats WILL be SCANNED. 🚨

2 weeks ago Chat Control 1.0 was extended in the EU.

There was also a lot of confusion around Chat Control 1.0 vs Chat Control 2.0, so we created the slider above

Chat Control 2.0 is the biggest threat for end-to-end encrypted communication providers like us at Tuta which is why we continue to say no to #ChatControl & fight for everyone's right to privacy. ✊🏻❤️🔒

Yesterday was a sad day for the privacy of citizens in the EU given the extension of #ChatControl 1.0, allowing for voluntary scanning of private communications.

In light of yesterday's vote, we wanted to remind you that: Chat Control 1.0 is different from Chat Control 2.0 in that providers (like us at Tuta) are not forced to backdoor their end-to-end encryption for surveillance.

#ChatControl 1.0 HAS PASSED - despite a majority voting against it (314:276) 🚨

After the EU parliament has rejected it TWICE in the past, it has been pushed as an urgent procedure for a new plenary vote. The EU has simply continued to put the vote on the agenda to get the outcome they've wanted since the start.

This is not democratic‼️

THE FIGHT AGAINST CHAT CONTROL IS NOT OVER YET 🚨

MEPs still haven't come to an agreement on Chat Control and will meet next week before the summer break.

Make your voices heard, say NO to #chatcontrol and email your MEPs now: https://fightchatcontrol.eu/

🚨 They are bringing back #ChatControl 🚨

Metsola doesn't understand that no means no.

Discussion is scheduled for Monday, so act now: https://fightchatcontrol.eu/

Diplomats call this power play “without precedent.”

Looks like we need to fight #ChatControl even harder. Call your MEPs now. 💪

Last month, the EU Council wanted to push through voluntary scanning. But they failed! 🎉

However, the trilogue discussions on Chat Control 2.0 start this Thursday. But #ChatControl is a Trojan Horse for citizens and businesses in Europe. Interestingly, not everyone should be monitored:

❌ Government

❌ Military

✅ YOU

Make sure your country opposes Chat Control! Learn why: 👉 https://tuta.com/blog/chat-control-criticism

🚨No Joke: Conservatives in the EU Parliament (EVP) want the vote on #ChatControl 1.0 to be repeated this Thursday - even though the Parliament already voted NO! 😡

Make the voluntary scanning by Gmail, Microsoft, LinkedIn etc stop! 🚨 https://tuta.com/blog/voluntary-scanning-google-microsoft

Today is the day, the EU decides on Chat Control 1.0. Will they let the Trojan Horse through the gate and let Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn etc continue to scan all your messages?

We at Tuta say NO.

❌ No scanning ❌ No mass surveillance ❌ No age verification

Instead we fight for:

✅ Encryption ✅ Privacy ✅ Open Source

And so should the EU. Stop #ChatControl now! 🥊

✅ Published an open letter ✅ Made noise on social media ✅ Wrote directly to politicians ✅ Gave interviews

And finally convinced politicians that #encryption must not be broken. 🔐🎉

Check out what happened in 2025, and stay tuned for the 2026 fight against #AgeVerification ✊

Huge Victory: #ChatControl no longer forces us to break #encryption. 🎉

🚨But: It now wants #AgeVerification.

Chat Control is back, but slightly changed:

❌ No backdoor of encryption ❌ No forced scanning 🚨 But: Age verification (no anonymity)

The update just quietly passed in the EU Council & now needs to be discussed with the EU Parliament.

👁️Big Techs like #Gmail and #WhatsApp will continue to scan your data.

Will you keep fighting against #ChatControl?

Hummelgaard doesn't understand that no means no.

But for now, we can enjoy our success. Thanks everyone for fighting for #privacy along with us! ❤️ 👏

#ChatControl is OFF the table for now. 💪

But the Danish Minister of Justice and chief architect of the current Chat Control proposal, Peter Hummelgaard, wants to bring it back in December.

Today is the day  Mr. Hummelgaard wanted to push through a vote on Chat Control in the EU Council. But he failed! 🎉

However, Chat Control will be back, so let's look at what this law means for everyone, not just here in Europe:

#ChatControl is nothing but a Trojan Horse for citizens and businesses in Europe. Why?

🧵 (1/7)

#ChatControl must never come back. 💪

❌ Breaks encryption ❌ Destroys privacy

This would make free discussion online impossible, create a backdoor for abusers and authoritarian regimes, and endanger journalists & activists.

Privacy is not a crime. #StopChatControl

🚨 BREAKING; Europe and Australia will both not break encryption! 🚀 🔒

We’ve interviewed Patrick Breyer – the guy who coined the term #ChatControl – on why #privacy matters. ❤️ 👇

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40775248

Yesterday the #EU postponed the vote on #ChatControl - a huge win for #privacy 💪

Now we must convince #Australia to do the same.

If not, Australia could become the first #5Eyes to outlaw #encryption 🔒

Read our open letter 👉 https://tuta.com/blog/australian-online-safety-act-encryption

The #EU member states could not agree on #ChatControl today. The Council Presidency has removed it from the voting agenda because they do not have a sufficient majority. 🥳

We need to stay vocal and make it clear that we will not accept mass #surveillance. 📢

📣 If the EU Council wants to exempt themselves from the #ChatControl client-side scanning, then they know what they are doing is wrong.

The vote is today.

Let them know we will not accept mass #surveillance! Together we can stop this dangerous law. 💪

🚨 If you are living in the #EU contact your representatives and let them know that you oppose #ChatControl!!!

Mass #surveillance has no place in Europe!

We need to get loud. Call the number below to make your voice heard! 📢

Today the EU is voting on #chatcontrol - again.

We call on the 27 Justice and Home Affairs Ministers to defend encryption! 🔒
