With our newly released Maple AI and the open-sourcing of our OpenSecret platform code, we're excited to present this technical primer on how we built our confidential computing developer platform leveraging secure enclaves.

Developers today live in an era where user data either sits in plain text in databases or is encrypted in a way that any admin or server with access keys can get ahold of and process their data in any way. This has led to many data leaks in the past.

Current attempts at doing E2EE have burdened the responsibility onto the user in ways where any end-user mistake can be drastic for them. Alternative approaches like iCloud or Google Drive encryption mean that data is often not available to access on all user devices.

Secure enclaves provide a great middle ground. They allow you to verify the code that is running while protecting sensitive data that runs inside a server's protected memory with private keys that only the verified enclave can access.

We built our developer platform on top of Secure Enclaves, elevating the current dev experience into a security-by-design approach on day 1. Our offering provides the developer experience they expect while offering their users great security out of the box.

We offer a powerful combination of user authentication, private key management, encrypted data sync, and private AI inference. This entire stack runs on secure enclaves, protecting users no matter how they use your app.

Our open source dev platform is fully verifiable through reproducible builds and attestation verifications against those builds, so you and your users know immediately that the OpenSecret backend is running exactly what they expect while being protected in memory.

We built Maple AI on top of our platform as a proof of concept, but you can build any app that you can build today. Consumer productivity apps, health tracking apps, note tracking, fintech, and many more can be built on this to protect user data around every corner.

You can turn any web page into an app on a Mac. For example, running Maple AI as its own app puts it quickly in reach for chatting and referencing within any workflow instead of sifting through dozens of browser tabs. You don't have to become a full Safari user to do it, because it creates a separate instance.

Here's how:

Thank you for supporting what we tried to build with Mutiny. The Lightning Network, especially self-custodial lightning on mobile, is a complex system. Unfortunately, it carried risks, many of which were out of our control.

We saw that the risks didn't outweigh the benefits to Mutiny Wallet users without an overhaul. Thus, we announced a multi-month plan to wind down the wallet, giving users time to move funds out. Mutiny and the community assisted many users during that time to move any remaining funds. It is still possible to use the emergency kit to recover funds for the next little while. The app remains published open source for anyone to self-host and improve.

Underlying the Mutiny Wallet was a strong layer of privacy, security, and encryption. Those elements were solid at the time, and they have massive benefits for both the Bitcoin app ecosystem and the broader web/mobile app space. Our goal is to empower hundreds of new "Mutiny"-type apps that innovate in the Lightning and Ecash space, pushing forward the mission of self-custodial, peer-to-peer digital cash.

Maple AI is the first app built on OpenSecret, enabling private key encryption for sensitive AI chats. It's even more secure than Mutiny Wallet because it uses confidential computing that can be cryptographically verified. OpenSecret brings this kind of privacy to any app that wants it.

Update: A small hotfix has been deployed restoring connectivity to all known federation guardians with this issue. A longer term fix is in progress and will probably be in the next major fedimint release.

Swaps have always been hit and miss. Your best option is to withdraw them off Mutiny and into another wallet. Try throughh LN, if that doesnt work, on chain.

An update to our apps have been made that should help performance when a single fedimint guardian is down. Please continue withdrawing out of the Freedom One and Bitcoin Principals federation. The LN gateways might be experiencing heavy load so try on chain if you need to. Getting plenty of reports of successful withdraws so far today, try again if you had issues before.

The fedimint team is working on short and long term solutions but for now it's best to withdraw and remove the federations. We have turned off lightning addresses for now too.

Sorry for the issues.

We'll have an update out soon fixing the loading issue when multiple federation guardians are down.

PSA: The functionality of multiple Fedimint federations is significantly degraded due to severe DNS issues.

It seems to be the case that some federation guardians have an XYZ domain that the DNS registrar has taken over. Freedom One and Bitcoin Principals appear to have one guardian offline due to this.

Unfortunately, despite the server and keys for these guardians being intact, there is no way for the DNS of a guardian to be swapped out after the fact. We became aware of this issue last week and then became aware that multiple federations are experiencing this: https://github.com/fedimint/fedimint/issues/5482/

Given the critical state of these federations, with one guardian out of four being permanently offline, it's essential that if you have funds in these federations, you should withdraw them immediately. Unfortunately, we're unaware of other public federations, so you must withdraw to another lightning or on-chain wallet.

From our experiences, intermittent/connectivity issues can occur with guardians, and this may result in errors if not all three remaining guardians are consistently online. No other guardian of these federations has XYZ or other domains like it. So, if you're having issues, please try again later.

Unfortunately, not much can be done on the Mutiny side, so we're removing the federation setup flow in the UI as a first step. Sorry for the inconvenience.
