✍️ Two UK transplant centers continued to use a heart device despite knowing it had a higher mortality rate than its rival product, putting dozens of patients at risk.
👉 Two UK transplant centers, the Freeman and Harefield hospitals, continued to use the Medtronic device despite knowing it had a higher mortality rate than the Abbott device. 👉 The Medtronic device had a higher mortality rate, with 45% of patients dying within two years compared to 15% for the Abbott device. 👉 The hospitals were aware of the financial relationships between their clinicians and the device's manufacturer, Medtronic. 👉 The family of one patient who received the device, Greg Marshall, is seeking answers about why he was not informed of the risks and why the device was not removed when it failed.
