PARIS FC JOINS PSG IN LIGUE 1. WHY DID PARIS WAIT FOR 35 YEARS TO HAVE TWO TOP-TIER SOCCER CLUBS?

✍️ For the first time in 35 years, two Paris-based soccer clubs will be playing in France's top division, with Paris FC joining Qatar-funded Paris Saint-Germain next season.

👉 The Paris exception: only one top club in Paris, unlike other major European cities 👉 Reasons behind the lack of top clubs in Paris: slow start of French soccer, divorce between French capitalism and soccer, abundance of sports in Paris, and political situation in working-class neighborhoods 👉 Paris FC's promotion to Ligue 1 ends the French anomaly of having only one major football team in the capital 👉 PSG has won 11 Ligue 1 titles in 13 seasons since Qatari backer QSI took over the club 👉 France's exceptional soccer academies are arguably the world's best along with Brazil and Spain, producing a veritable production line of talent
