✍️ Criminal charges against debt collection firm Panthera Finance have been dismissed after the company argued it was not technically engaged in debt collection.
👉 Panthera Finance was accused of unduly harassing consumers and was fined $500,000 in a 2020 federal court ruling. 👉 Consumer Affairs Victoria launched criminal proceedings against the company after a Guardian Australia investigation revealed its attempts to circumvent the blacklisting. 👉 The company argued it was not technically engaged in debt collection as it had acquired the debts and was collecting debt it now owned. 👉 The magistrate dismissed the charges and ordered Consumer Affairs Victoria to pay costs.
