‘The first thing I did was poke it’: Canada beach blobs mystery solved by chemists.

The team, led by chemist Chris Kozak, conducted a series of tests on the blobs, including infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, to determine their composition. The tests revealed that the blobs are a butyl rubber PVA composite, commonly used in the oil and gas industry to clean out pipes. The discovery has raised concerns about the environmental impact of the material, as it is denser than water and could be mistaken for food by marine wildlife. ● The blobs are a synthetic rubber material used in the oil and gas industry. ● The material is a butyl rubber PVA composite. ● The blobs are denser than water and could be mistaken for food by marine wildlife. ● The discovery has raised concerns about the environmental impact of the material.
