✍️ Two groups have filed legal challenges to the federal environment minister's approval of Woodside's North West Shelf extension, a major liquified natural gas project in Western Australia.
👉 The Australian Conservation Foundation and Friends of Australian Rock Art have filed separate legal challenges to the federal environment minister's approval of Woodside's North West Shelf extension. 👉 The groups argue that the minister wrongly considered the economic benefits of an unapproved gas project in his decision. 👉 The North West Shelf gas processing plant is set to operate until 2070, with the groups estimating that the project's total emissions would be more than 13 times Australia's annual emissions. 👉 The groups are also challenging the minister's decision to approve the project without knowing the details of the gas it would process and the pollution it would cause.
