- PROOF OF IMMIGRATION STATUS, SUCH AS A GREEN CARD, VISA, OR I-94 FORM
- PROOF OF EMPLOYMENT OR SCHOOL ENROLLMENT, SUCH AS A PAY STUB, LETTER FROM AN EMPLOYER, OR ENROLLMENT CONFIRMATION
- PROOF OF ADDRESS, SUCH AS A UTILITY BILL, LEASE AGREEMENT, OR BANK STATEMENT

IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE SPECIFIC DOCUMENTS REQUIRED MAY VARY DEPENDING ON YOUR INDIVIDUAL CIRCUMSTANCES AND THE SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES OF YOUR ENCOUNTER WITH ICE. IT'S ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO CARRY SOME FORM OF IDENTIFICATION AND PROOF OF IMMIGRATION STATUS WITH YOU, AND TO BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION IF REQUESTED.
✍️ The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained over 54,000 people in September, prompting concerns about migrant safety. Experts advise creating a safety plan, memorizing emergency contacts, and maintaining a calm demeanor when interacting with agents.
👉 Create a safety plan and memorize emergency contacts
👉 Plan ahead for family and medical issues
👉 Express oneself peacefully and maintain distance from agents
👉 Provide a contact in case of emergency to school or daycare
👉 Use the ICE detainee locator online to identify oneself if detained
👉 Show proof of status, such as a passport, green card, or work permit
👉 Present personal documents, such as a birth certificate, if no legal status
👉 Stop safely if stopped by police, keep hands visible, and provide requested documents
👉 Refuse consent for a vehicle search if asked
👉 Apply for the California AB 60 driver's license if irregular status
👉 Avoid opening doors to ICE agents
