✍️ A team of astronomers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has discovered a small lava planet, 140 light-years from Earth, that is rapidly disintegrating and producing a massive 9 million kilometer-long tail.
👉 The planet is a small, rocky body with a mass between that of Mercury and the Moon. 👉 It is rapidly disintegrating due to its close proximity to its star. 👉 The planet's tail is 9 million kilometers long, which is half the length of its orbit. 👉 The researchers predict that the planet will disappear completely in 1-2 million years. 👉 The discovery was made using data from the NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and the James Webb Space Telescope.
