✍️ A 18-year-old Guatemalan student, Álvaro Castro-Velásquez, was detained by ICE and will be deported back to Guatemala after accepting a voluntary departure. He was detained while on his way to graduate from high school in New York.
👉 Álvaro Castro-Velásquez, an 18-year-old Guatemalan student, was detained by ICE while on his way to graduate from high school in New York. 👉 He had been living in the US since he was 16, after his mother's death, and had been granted deferred action. 👉 He was arrested and is now being held in a detention center in Texas, where he will be deported back to Guatemala. 👉 His lawyer, Pallvi Babbar, stated that the country does not offer security to young migrants in similar situations and that Castro-Velásquez was not doing anything wrong when he was arrested. 👉 He has accepted a voluntary departure and will leave the US before October 14.
