✍️ A new report argues that the plastic industry has been promoting "advanced recycling" as a solution to plastic waste despite knowing it's not technically or economically feasible.
👉 Advanced recycling is not a new technology, but has been around for decades 👉 The industry has been aware of the limitations and problems with these technologies for years 👉 The processes are expensive, requiring large amounts of energy, fuel, and labor 👉 Many chemical recycling facilities do not turn plastic into new plastic, but instead produce fuel 👉 Post-consumer items cannot easily be processed with advanced recycling 👉 The industry does not frequently address publicly the pollution caused by advanced recycling
