✍️ A New Zealand navy vessel, HMNZS Manawanui, sank after its crew mistakenly left it on 'autopilot' near Samoa, resulting in a reef collision and fire.

👉 The HMNZS Manawanui was on a mission to map the ocean floor when it struck a reef. 👉 The crew mistakenly left the ship on 'autopilot', which resulted in the ship maintaining a course towards land. 👉 The crew did not check if the autopilot was disengaged before trying to change direction. 👉 The ship sank south of Samoa's most populous island Upolu, with no fatalities reported but minor injuries. 👉 Concerns were raised about potential oil spills due to the ship's diesel fuel tanks.
