✍️ A Jewish couple's heirs have filed a lawsuit against the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and a Greek foundation over a Vincent van Gogh painting that was allegedly looted by the Nazis during World War II.
👉 The painting 'Picking Olives' was purchased by the Met in 1956 for $125,000. 👉 The heirs claim that the Met failed to properly research the painting's provenance before buying it. 👉 The painting was originally owned by a Jewish couple, Hedwig and Frederick Stern, who were forced to leave Germany in 1936 and were unable to take the painting with them. 👉 The painting was later sold in Germany in 1938, and the profits were confiscated by the Nazis. 👉 The heirs are seeking compensation for the value of the painting during the time it was owned by the Met, as well as the profits made from its sale in 1972.
