✍️ High school athletes in Shasta County, California are adapting to extreme heat by monitoring the WetBulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) and modifying their practices to ensure player safety.
👉 The CIF has implemented rules and guidelines for monitoring extreme weather and modifying athletic activities to ensure player safety. 👉 Coaches, athletic directors, and trainers are required to monitor the WetBulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) to determine the level of heat stress. 👉 The CIF has set up a three-category system to determine the level of restrictions on athletic activities. 👉 Schools in Shasta County fall into the least restrictive category. 👉 Local players are accustomed to practicing in extreme temperatures and believe it gives them an advantage over schools that don't deal with it on a daily basis.
