✍️ Hundreds of thousands of Australians who were wrongly forced to pay back welfare debts have won a massive payout in the country's history, with the government agreeing to settle a class action lawsuit for an additional $475m.
👉 The 'Robodebt' scheme wrongly told welfare recipients they had been overpaid and demanded they repay debts that often never existed 👉 The scheme affected over 440,000 people and was linked to at least three suicides 👉 A royal commission found that senior public servants knew the scheme was unlawful, but continued to implement it anyway 👉 The government has agreed to settle the class action lawsuit and provide additional compensation to victims
