✍️ A small wildfire in Grand Canyon national park's remote North Rim sparked a devastating blaze that destroyed 70 buildings, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, and left hundreds of employees without homes and jobs.
👉 The fire was initially allowed to burn at a low intensity as part of a strategy to clear out excess fuels and reduce the risk of a more catastrophic wildfire. 👉 The fire suddenly exploded in size and intensity on July 11, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. 👉 The fire destroyed 70 buildings, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, dozens of visitor cabins, and park administrative offices and residences. 👉 The park's North Rim has been shut down for the remainder of the season. 👉 Hundreds of employees have been left without homes and jobs. 👉 The fire has raised concerns about the impact on the park's environment and drinking water quality.
