In light of recent events with Internet Archive, I figured we could really use a decentralized Internet Archive to have a resilient backup.
Having said that, introducing Chronicl - Decentralized Internet Archive distributed across Nostr relays

The Internet Archive is under attack, with a breach revealing info for 31 million accounts A DDoS attack isn’t the only problem. When visiting The Internet Archive (www.archive.org) on Wednesday afternoon, The Verge was greeted by a pop-up claiming the site had been hacked. Just after 9PM ET, Internet Archive founder Brewster Kahle confirmed the breach and said the website had been defaced with the notification via a JavaScript library. Here’s what the popup said: “Have you ever felt like the Internet Archive runs on sticks and is constantly on the verge of suffering a catastrophic security breach? It just happened. See 31 million of you on HIBP!” HIBP refers to Have I Been Pwned?, a website where people can look up whether or not their information has been published in data leaked from cyber attacks. HIBP operator Troy Hunt confirmed to Bleeping Computer that nine days ago, he received a file containing “email addresses, screen names, password change timestamps, Bcrypt-hashed passwords, and other internal data” for 31 million unique email addresses, and confirmed it was valid by matching data with a user’s account. A tweet from HIBP said 54 percent of the accounts were already in its database from previous breaches. In posts on his account, Hunt gave further details on the timeline, from contacting the IA about the breach on October 6th, and moving forward with the disclosure process until their site was defaced and DDoS’d today at the same time they were loading the data into HIBP to begin notifying affected users. After closing the message, the site loaded normally, albeit slowly. As of 5:30PM ET, the popup was gone, but so was the rest of the site, leaving either nothing or a placeholder message saying “Internet Archive services are temporarily offline” and directing visitors to the site’s account on X for updates. Jason Scott, an archivist and software curator of The Internet Archive, said the site was experiencing a DDoS attack, posting on Mastodon that “According to their twitter, they’re doing it just to do it. Just because they can. No statement, no idea, no demands.” Later Wednesday evening, Brewster Kahley of the IA confirmed the breach in a post on X: What we know: DDOS attack–fended off for now; defacement of our website via JS library; breach of usernames/email/salted-encrypted passwords. What we’ve done: Disabled the JS library, scrubbing systems, upgrading security. Will share more as we know it. An account on X called SN_Blackmeta said it was behind the attack and implied that another attack was planned for tomorrow. The account also posted about DDoSing the Archive in May, and Scott has previously posted about attacks seemingly aimed at disrupting the Internet Archive. We’ve reached out to the organization to learn more information. Update, October 9th: Added information from HIBP and BleepingComputer, and Brewster Kahley’s confirmation of the breach.

“The lost cannot be recovered; but let us save what remains: not by vaults and locks which fence them from the public eye and use, in consigning them to the waste of time, but by such a multiplication of copies, as shall place them beyond the reach of accident.” — Thomas Jefferson, 1791

The crypto world likes to think they’re enlightened centrists/libertarians when in reality they fall into this same naive “no true Scotsman” fallacy claiming that the people they disagree with are leftists, while none of the people they agree with qualify as fascists because reasons. https://image.nostr.build/5317508db37a24d21e80439f14a09532056e591f624d129a8f7e860697612e77.jpg

Based on what my relatives have been telling me back in Egypt, this is a spot on assessment of what's been going on.
Another example:
A big reason for the insane traffic in Cairo and Alexandria is that their transit systems are nowhere near extensive enough for the population size.
With all the money being spent building new cities from scratch, some of that must be spent to vastly expand metro systems in both.
To put it into context: Cairo metropolitan area and NYC metropolitan area have about the same population size of about 22 million.
NYC metro area has:
- Largest subway system in the world with 472 stations and 36 lines.
- LIRR commuter rail to the Long Island suburbs with 11 lines and 126 stations
- Metro North commuter rail with 5 lines and 124 stations
- NJ Transit commuter rail with 12 lines and 165 stations
Cairo metropolitan area has:
- Cairo Metro with 3 lines and 84 stations
…you can see where the traffic comes from

#Bluesky accounts have officially begun bridging over to the #Fediverse thanks to @Bridgy Fed for Bluesky , which means Bluesy accounts are now officially bridging over to Nostr thanks to @mostr and momostr.pink!
For example, here’s my Bluesky account bridged over to nostr:

Great work
Quiet looks super interesting, it's like Discord/Slack but actually decentralized/P2P. Messages and content are synced between devices using IPFS/OrbitDB and connects made through Tor.
I made a Nostr community on it as an alternative to using Discord for Nostr dev discussions:

Was thinking about this the other day, and it inspired me to start working on what I call VibeTag.
The idea behind it is to be able to tag any content on the internet with a “vibe”/“sentiment”, whether it’s a nostr post, something on Mastodon, Twitter, even entire websites.
This will initially focus on whether the sentiment of the content is positive (informative, funny, etc) or negative (misleading, rage-bait, vulgar in general) etc.
As more and more content is tagged in either direction, it learns what words/phrases are associated with positive content vs negative. The tags and info about associated content would be synced across content through the beauty of Nostr relays.
This essentially allows there to be a straightforward algorithm that you can take with you across the internet that automatically generates/updates a list of words associated with shitty content and hides it from view.
This is something I’ll be integrating into
but also will be a library anyone can integrate into their project!
