The FDIC’s favorite line is true: no insured depositor has lost a penny since 1934. In March 2023 that line needed an asterisk.

SVB, Signature, and First Republic failed inside weeks. The $250,000 cap was overridden by a systemic-risk exception.

Most of the ~$18.7 billion hit to the Deposit Insurance Fund came from covering deposits above the limit. GAO had flagged both SVB and Signature since 2018.

The OIG later said the agency wasn’t ready. The response since has been to loosen merger review, not tighten supervision.

The cleanest government-corporation design in the set still became an implicit guarantee the week it was tested at the speed of a group chat.

The idea proposed by Vaez is that since the conflict is seemingly at a stalemate, opportunities for peace may be possible since every attempt at coercion by both sides has failed.

He also points out that this conflict is following a similar pattern in US diplomacy with rival countries, specifically China and Vietnam. In this patter, the US attempted to isolate these communist countries, only to later partner with them on some level to better serve US interests.

But honestly, who knows when or how this conflict will end?

I shudder when I read them again, and it makes me miss my friends.

Quick question, and it may sound silly but there is a purpose.

When I post something here, a poem for example, it is discoverable in a cursory internet search?

Here’s why I ask. I have a website that I’ve used for years to deposit poems I’m writing, many of them in draft form. When I eventually finish that poem and submit it to magazines and journals, sometimes they are rejected because they are considered “previously published”. Uploading the poem to my blog counts as publication for some of these magazines.

As I transition more of my writing to nostr, I began to wonder about this. If I published a poem on nostr, even as a draft, would it be discoverable by an agency when they check to see if the work is already on the web?

I want to get my work out there and published, but I’m starting to feel like having a web address is a hindrance.
