God bless the twentieth century men who would just scale tall things in seconds, and build or fix all kinds of things at great heights with such zeal, with a broad smile, and a cigarette hanging out of their mouths. No harnesses, scaffolds to stand on, or nets underneath them. Absolute mad lads with true grit.

Last night's movie was actually a travel vlogger's video about the Scottish Isle of Gigha (or what the Vikings called, 'God’s Isle'), owned by the residents who live there through a heritage trust. Unfortunately, although it is a beautiful area and people, it comes off as slightly communistic, and don't get me started on those wind farms. I still really enjoy this travel vlogger's channel and content.

When you think of the Miss Marple TV adaptations, is it Julia McKenzie or Joan Hickson that you remember? For me, it's the latter... because I was a teen in the '80s when the series was on. I mean, obviously, there was also the series starring Margaret Rutherford, but she was before my time and I had not seen those. Anyway, here's the theme opening and ending from the 1980s series...

Tonight's movie wasn't a movie, but rather an episode from "Screen Two", a TV series on BBC 2 that aired in 1992, and the episode was entitled "Memento Mori" starred Dame Maggie Smith, Stephanie Cole, Michael Hordern, Renee Asherson, Thora Hird, and John Wood, among a few other British actors you may recognize. I enjoyed this dark but somehow still brightly witty film—a slice of life showing a group of old folk being reminded that their days are numbered.

Last night's movie was A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945) starring, Dorothy McGuire, James Dunn and Joan Blondell. It's probably one of my favorite movies depicting an impoverished but kind of plucky family surviving in one of New York's very busy and crowded tenement housing immigrant neighborhoods in the early 20th century. The daughter is really the star of the story. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/xn4O4L9UA7o/sddefault.jpg?sqp=-oaymwEmCIAFEOAD8quKqQMa8AEB-AG8B4AC0AWKAgwIABABGGcgZyhnMA8=&rs=AOn4CLDpywtyPgdskZoGeYzS7wiUxoSJAQ

Last night's show was Pat and Margaret (1994) starring (and written by) Victoria Wood (RIP) and Julie Walters. A dowdy lunch lady (Wood) gets to meet her idol, a glamorous Oprah-like TV figure (played by Walters) on the set of her show and things go south in a funny way (I won't spoil it).

If you enjoy British humor, I recommend it (it's on YouTube). #nowwatching #nowplaying #TV https://m.primal.net/NBMv.png https://m.primal.net/NBMo.png

Magnificent Three: How Amsterdam, London, and New York the start of the global trade/economy from late 1500s to to late 1800s.

Watching this documentary made me realize that now, more than ever, we should all be trading with each other and ignoring/bypassing markets that have been in bed with corrupt tyrannical governments for centuries...

Tonight's movie was The Shell Seekers (1989)

Emmy-winning family drama starring Angela Lansbury, based on the book by Rosamund Pilcher. I don't normally like these types of films (it was later aired on the Hallmark Channel) but this one stood out. Less cheesy, good acting, and excellent scenery (filmed in Cornwall, England and Ibiza). I enjoyed it. #movies #nowwatching #nowplaying https://m.primal.net/LGFq.png https://m.primal.net/LGFq.png
