TrueFans - Current Roadmap

1. Newsletter only for (hosted) creators
2. Merchant Store for all creators
3. DAI
4. WebMCP support for Kevin & Kelly Agents
5. X.402 and MPP integration for payments.
6. New Native apps for iOS/Android - mobile, TV, Watch, Car, Duo, Home

A busy few months coming for TrueFans.

Bloomberg reported in August that TikTok is developing a feature that would allow users to send each other money via direct messages.

If rolled out, the feature would use the social media service’s TikTok Pay offering, which is already available in Southeast Asia for TikTok Shop purchases.

Additionally, Reuters reported in March that TikTok had applied to Brazil’s central bank for approval to operate as a financial technology company offering lending and payment services.

TrueFans now supports StableCoin payments over X.402 via Stripe+Alby

We also support the new Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) to accept credit card payments.

For card payments through Shared Payment Tokens (SPTs), the minimum amount is 0.50 USD.

For StableCoin payments, the minimum amount is 0.01 USDC.

Payments can be used for Streaming, Likes, SuperComments, Subscriptions and Premium Content.

Payments also work for Event Tickets and Merch.

FYI:

Alby supports the x402 protocol to enable Bitcoin Lightning payments and stablecoin settlements—for API endpoints and AI agents.

Key Features & Tools

• x402 Lightning Facilitator: A multi-tenant facilitator built by Alby using Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) to route and settle x402 payments over the Lightning Network.

• 402-Proxy: A minimal HTTP proxy (Alby 402-Proxy GitHub) that gates upstream API access behind Lightning payments.

not getting any sound - just me?

This is why American handball is so awful to watch. A typical game lasts 3 hours including the pre/post match discussion. Along with millions of ads breaks and stoppages to swap offence and defense - the actual play time for an American handball match is just 11 minutes and in that time it is kicked about half a dozen times.

WebMCP (Web Model Context Protocol) is a proposed web standard by Google and Microsoft that lets websites expose structured JavaScript and HTML tools directly to browser-based AI agents.

Runs natively inside an open browser tab, allowing the human and the AI agent to interact with the exact same live web page.

Why does Apple podcast coverart only support PNG or JPEG not Webp or JPEG XL the new image format https://jpegxl.info which is supported by all browsers.

talked about W3C ActivityStreams on Friday's Podcasting 2.0 - sadly people don't understand their potential.

Clip: (01:04:00)

TrueFans has 30+ Activity verbs that track listener behaviour. - e.g play, become a fan, like, comment, clip

We also use Activitystreams for Gamification to identify SuperFan / Leaderboards.

Fans can also share their activity with friends on social media for discovery.

TrueFans AI Robots Kevin & Kelly will use this Activitystream data.

TrueFans MCP connector will be ready by the end of the month.

We already have a test version working internally. We will also have a Kevin & Kelly prototypes to let users ask questions. Its a total trial with no expectation.

any show tonight?

After all the chat with

and

about micropayments 2.0 using X.402 and Agentic AI. This article is worth a read.

Below is a SuperFeed from TrueFans.

There are 5 tags I would like to highlight.

1. Pinned This tag enables creators to pick an episode they would like an app to feature.

2. StoreFront We mirrored the Funding Tag to enable creators to link to an external storefront like Shopify.

3. Contact We added support for the new contact tag.

4. Person We support multi-roles for a person.

5. Networks Like the Publisher Feed. A network feed enables many podcasts to collaborate together.

did you get these boosts?

You appear to not be hearing any boosts. You closed the channel on Alby Hub.

As an app developer I get no benefit by including ads on my platform. James has talked about Apple getting paid via their proprietary API for every ad served on their app. He says that other apps like TrueFans could/should get a similar deal to play ads. Otherwise lets add a skip button like Spotify.

I have talked about VTS + splits enabling everyone in the podcast ecosystem getting paid by advertisers. Hosts, Creators and Apps but also Listeners who get paid for their time and attention.

1/2 - Podcast:Contact Tag (experimental)

TrueFans just added the new Podcast:Contact tag to the Creators Admin Dashboard > Advanced Tab.

We have applied the contact options based on the current discussion.

https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespace/discussions/770

So PodcastIndex closed their Lightning Channels last week which I was using. So need to open new channels.

Oh joy ;-)

1/3 - This week's Podnews Weekly Review is coming soon. James is travelling in Europe.

On this weeks show our special guest is

Jones aka The PodSage.

Dave talks about the NEW Podping Mesh her has been working on. Dave also lays out his vision for a distributed Podcast Index.

I also ask Dave why he and Adam Curry started the Podcasting 2.0 namespace? Plus what new Podcasting 2.0 tags are coming down the pipe and which of the current 28 tags is his favourite?

interesting how lonktree has evolved https://youtube.com/shorts/4IFp9IHwUm4?is=eTqEr-5Gtj0ZPNb3

adding new booking tag to TrueFans. Will send you a link when we have a working option.

Do you have an icon for contact/booking you would like us to use.

This is very interesting and another rabbit hole to follow.

🧩 x402 now supports Lightning: the x402 Foundation merged a specification in which payment is proven through the preimage, in a standard that counts Google, Visa and Stripe among its participants.

Just interviewed

for this weeks PWR. We covered a lot of ground from the new distributed Podping, Dave's vision for a distributed Podcast Index. We talk about the namespace and what comes next. We also discussed the needs remains for micropayments but how will they evolve and what needs to happen. It was a long interview but very in depth. Thanks Podsage.

2/3 So there is no podcaster or listener demanding podcasting 2.0

Bottomline we are not marketing podcasting 2.0. Whose job is it to market podcasting 2.0 and educate the market on all the tags. PSP, Podcast Index, Hosts, Apps, ????

When a task belongs to everyone, it becomes no one's responsibility because people assume someone else will do it.

One new feature TrueFans is currently working on is allowing podcast creators to create clips/soundbites in three different ways.

1. Highlight the audio inside TrueFans to create an audio clip.
2. Upload an audio clip
3. Upload a video clip - both horizontal video clips and the new vertical video clips.

The Soundbite podcast:soundbite allows podcasters to have a mix of audio/video clips in the RSS feed.

Here is a very early test page.

4/4

Podcasting 2.0 would be focused on BASIC building blocks - person, transcript, chapters, location, guid, alt enclosure etc.

Podcasting 3.0 would focus on the MONETISATION tags - funding, value, vts, premium content etc

Podcasting 4.0 would focus on DISCOVERY tags - playlists, podrolls, publisher feeds and network feeds etc.

This is just an idea to see how we can help podcast creators better understand all of the podcasting tags without overwhelming them.

I'd love people's thoughts.

1/2 - Podcast Marketing Podcasting 1.0 was invented by Adam Curry. It remained stagnant for many years until

(Curry) &

(Jones) introduced the new Podcasting 2.0 namespace and over the past 5 years, this group created the 28+ tags/features.

The success of Podcasting 2.0 can be measured by the adoption of the namespace. e.g Apple, Spotify, Amazon and a plethora of hosts/apps.

However the people not adopting Podcasting 2.0 (tags) are the podcast creators and I think I know why.

5/5 On the front end we show the play button as Premium and when a fan tries to listen without paying the audio is encrypted.

When a user clicks play, we bring up a popup to request payment. After payment is confirmed, we update the episode for playback.

4/4 - TrueFans lets podcast creators turn any episode into a 'Premium Episode' and set their own price in either Bitcoin or Fiat currency.

But more importantly TrueFans is the only podcast host that adds this Premium tag into the RSS feed.e.g Podcast:Paywall

There is a good discussion on this premium tag.

Github: https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespace/discussions/670

3/4 - Buzzsprout is one host that offers a variety of premium subscription services but none of these premium content options feature in the RSS feed Buzzsprout distribute for podcast creators.

This is a big problem and needs to be added to the Podcasting 2.0 tags.

1/3 - Podcasting 2.0 support for Premium Content?

Last week Podnews reported on Apple Podcasts Subscriptions getting support for video

Back in 2021, Apple announced Apple Podcasts Subscriptions. This service lets creators offer paid subscriptions to their shows in exchange for perks such as ad-free listening, bonus episodes, early access, and subscriber-only content.

Since then, creators have been able to offer paid subscriptions through Apple Podcasts to listeners in more than 170 countries.

For those interested Podnews Weekly Review is now out in both audio and video, after our technical challenges last Thursday.

https://truefans.fm/podnews-weekly-review/6ab8bfdefadda7d43952d54d

TrueFans Cinema Mode.

TrueFans enables podcast creators to aggregate all their content in one portal page. e.g audio, video, blogs, events & merch plus newsletters coming soon.

TrueFans also creates a Super RSS Feed with all these podcast elements but we also allow podcast creators to customise this SuperFeed in their advanced tab settings.

Stripe launches Pay By Bank. TrueFans adds support.

Pay by Bank is a single-use payment method that allows customers to pay directly from their bank account instead of using a card.

Pay by Bank runs on banking infrastructure and takes advantage of open banking APIs. When a customer chooses Pay by Bank, they first select their bank and then approve the payment on their bank’s mobile app or web portal.

Pay by Bank is available by default for payments between 0.50 GBP and 10,000 GBP.

What a wonderful weekend celebrating my 60th b’day with my family and friends.

Growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional. “Don’t let the old man in.”

1/2 - Auto-Publish TrueFans Activity to aid discovery.

One of the best ways to discover new podcasts is 'word of mouth' i.e recommendations from friends. TrueFans wants to automate this process.

TrueFans uses 30 different activity verbs to track fan behaviour. e.g become a fan, like, comment, play etc. We also use verbs to help identify 'SuperFans' by applying points to each activity verb. e.g gamification - badges, leaderboards and superfans.

New location search for discovery based on

radar now added to TrueFans. https://truefans.fm/search

all you had to do was scroll down

TrueFans added the ability to make Podcast/Episodes 'Premium' a few weeks ago.

Today we added 'Premium' Blogs.

Creators on TrueFans can set the value they want for any podcast/episode or blog post

We also give TrueFan creators to add podcasts, podrolls, publishers feeds etc to their RSS Super Feed.

/cc

we have a BIG support button on every podcast page. If the RSS feed has an external link, then the button goes there. However if a podcast doesn't have the funding tag in the feed then we automatically turn on the funding tag with the option to donate in TrueFans.

I really enjoyed this podcast - Dave and Dharm DeMystify who talk about the interleger protocol.

Here is a clip from the show where they talk about streaming micropayments.

1/2 - Event Feed Proposal

TrueFans has the ability to combine multiple RSS feeds (audio & video, blogs, publisher, merch), and now we can add events.

We are proposing a new EVENT feed based on the Publisher Feed.

1/3 - On this week's Podnews Weekly Review our special guests are Giles Gear from Cheerful Earful and Andy Maxwell the co-founder of Earmax Media.

Giles talks with James about "The world’s funniest podcast festival " which returns this October.

Cheerful Earful will be in London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Melbourne, Dublin and New York from Sep 28 - Oct 28, with the largest lineup in the festival’s history.

TrueFans supports the Podcasting 2.0 Funding Tag. If you have an external funding link in your RSS feed, we use that link under the 'support this show' button.

For a long time, I haven't been a fan of private RSS feeds.

To access premium podcasts today, creators typically need to publish their content on a separate paywall platform such as Patreon, Memberful, or Substack.

Fans then have to create another account, purchase the subscription, copy the private RSS feed, and paste it into their preferred podcast app before they can start listening.

That's a lot of steps. #highfriction

1/2 - TrueFans has just launched another new way for fans to support the podcasters they love. 🎁

Fans can now gift 1, 3, 6, or 12 months of TrueFans podcast hosting.

If a podcast is hosted on TrueFans, supporters can visit the Merch tab on a podcast page and purchase a hosting package as a gift.

Once the purchase is complete, the podcaster receives a unique redemption code. Entering the code in their TrueFans dashboard automatically covers their hosting costs for the gifted period.

NEWS: Wero is Europe's payment answer.

1/2 - A year ago, Wero showed up in banking apps. A new button for sending money instantly across Europe.

But it’s much more than that.

13 countries on paper. 130 million users in theory. The whole continent building its own payment rails.

Numbers 48.5 million registered users in the first 12 months. Germany, France, Belgium. Over €7.5 billion processed.

For a platform that only went live in mid-2025. Pretty solid.

TrueFans is transforming traditional RSS feeds into SuperFeeds. 🚀

So, what exactly is a SuperFeed?

Traditional RSS feeds were designed to distribute podcast episodes, with the audio attached using the enclosure tag.

Then came Podcasting 2.0, introducing more than 30 new namespace tags, including chapters, transcripts, people, locations, funding, and much more. These additions made RSS feeds far more powerful while keeping them open and portable.

lots of people are sending you super comments with SATS but you did not read any of them yesterday?
