Umbrel ☂️

The Umbrel app is now on Windows!

Just like on Mac, it finds your Umbrel automatically, adds it as a drive in File Explorer, and works remotely with Tailscale.

The only cloud in File Explorer you actually own: https://link.umbrel.com/windows-app

yo dawg, we heard you like computers, so we put a computer in your home cloud so your AI agent can use a computer while you use your AI agent

you're a thousand miles from home. you text your home server "install this app", it does. then you ask out loud for a photo, it finds and downloads it. the future is now.

umbrelOS 2.0. Out today.

Watch the keynote:

Introducing umbrelOS 2.0.

Everything you imagined your home cloud to be.

Arriving September 22. Public beta rolling out today.

both eyes

people keep asking if the next release is umbrelOS 2.0. we're not confirming. just noting that nobody vagueposts about a 1.7.5 release for a month

keep an eye on the dock

so turns out everything we've shipped so far in umbrelOS was the warmup.

we understand this is a bold claim. and we stand by it.

Introducing Umbrel App Store agent skills.

Ask Claude Code/Codex: "See getumbrel/umbrel-apps repo and build (or test/update/submit) an Umbrel app".

After approving 350+ apps and 5,000+ app updates, we've condensed all those learnings into 4 hyper-focused agent skills right in our app store repo.

So yeah, that's the entire barrier to building high-quality self-hosted apps now. 🫡

You can now connect two Umbrels in different locations and back one up to the other.

This already worked on the same network, but the latest Tailscale update in the Umbrel App Store removes the "same network" part. You can now mount folders from one Umbrel into another in Files, even across the world, and use that as a backup location.

So one Umbrel at home, one at your parents' place, and tada - you now have real offsite backups, fully self-hosted, on hardware you own.

You asked, and it's here!

Oof, we might need a new "Nostr" category in the App Store soon.

Two new Nostr apps just dropped:

• Gupt: Self-hosted, end-to-end encrypted messenger powered by Nostr. No phone number, no email, no account. Like Signal/Telegram, but your keys and messages are actually yours.

• DTAN Server: A torrent network with no central website. File sharing that runs over Nostr and peer-to-peer instead of one site everyone depends on (and that can vanish overnight).

https://apps.umbrel.com/app/gupt

https://apps.umbrel.com/app/dtan-server

Paperclip is now live on the Umbrel App Store!

It lets you run a whole team of AI agents like a company, right on your home server.

Create agents with API keys, or login with your Codex/Claude Code subscription, or even onboard your existing OpenClaw/Hermes agent as an employee in your company!

https://apps.umbrel.com/app/paperclip

you might've noticed hermes and openclaw have just been… insanely reliable on umbrelOS lately, right?

here's why: both apps now ship with managed umbrelOS runtime context injected into the agent's prompts

the agent now knows it's running inside an umbrelOS app, where to correctly store data, that it shouldn't self-update, where the sandbox boundaries are, and when to load deeper umbrelOS-specific guidance

basically, the agent stops doing weird stuff because it finally knows where it is

you're welcome 🤝

Nostr VPN is now live on the Umbrel App Store!

It turns your Umbrel into a private mesh VPN, aka you can securely reach your Umbrel and all your devices from anywhere in the world.

Think Tailscale, but with no third-party company and no central control server in the middle.

https://apps.umbrel.com/app/nostr-vpn

sure, an ai agent running on your home server is cool but how about a team of them running in parallel, sharing memory, handling your discord, your team slack, your community, all from the umbrel on your shelf?

spacebot is now live on the umbrel app store, lfggg

https://apps.umbrel.com/app/spacebot

Another day, another Linux CVE. Truly wild times.

So here's umbrelOS 1.7.3 which patches DirtyFrag (CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500).

The vulnerability hits the news. You hit "Install now" and you're already patched. You're welcome. 🤝

if you could add one thing to umbrelOS, what would it be?

oh shit this was his second block!

same guy, same umbrel, same public pool, TWO solo bitcoin blocks from his living room in 7 months!

his quote goes hard: "even on this network, the little guys can win"

The umbrelOS App Store just crossed 300+ apps. So we rebuilt https://apps.umbrel.com from the ground up.

Huge respect to every developer building these apps, and every contributor submitting them to the store! 🙌

PSA: umbrelOS 1.7.2 is out now.

This is a security update that patches CopyFail (CVE-2026-31431), a recently disclosed vulnerability in the Linux kernel.

in five years your home server will run more software that matters to you than your phone does. agents that know your context, your habits, your finances, your family. running quietly. on hardware you own. welcome to the future.

umbrelOS 1.7. Rolling out now to all users.

Introducing umbrelOS 1.7

Shortcuts to websites and custom ports on the home screen. A built-in text editor in Files. Advanced network settings. Easier file sharing over network. 17 new languages.

Arriving later this week. Public beta out now.

LFG! Hermes Agent is live on the Umbrel App Store!

It's an AI agent that gets smarter the longer it runs, remembers stuff with persistent memory across sessions, learns your workflow, and autonomously creates its own reusable skills from experience.

And it's sandboxed like every Umbrel app so it can't touch anything it's not supposed to.

there's a version of the future where every household runs a small fleet of ai agents locally. one handles finances, one handles scheduling, one handles home automation, one handles communication.

none of them talk to the internet, all of them talk to each other, and your home server becomes the brain of your household.

we're closer to this than people think.
