Appropriate AI usage?

New Siri is so good.

Oof that Ohio ad. And I thought Texas politics were ugly.
Interesting behavior I’ve been noticing on Mac 27. Looks like the task scheduler changes the core a single threaded task is running on so that it runs evenly across the cores in the core group.
I’m guessing that Apple decided that the cache invalidation cost of bouncing around is worth spreading the heat load across the multiple cores.
Really fascinating stuff (assuming it’s not a bug). Wish Anandtech was still around for one of their deep dives.

But you see it’s fine to use his service because he’s changed.

I spent all day with Claude doing tons of boiler plate code. This is stuff that's 95% brain dead simple parsing JSON with very well defined patterns. Basically all I was doing is telling it what I needed added, answering questions on the 5% stuff (nothing complex) and reviewing. Method by method, class by class.
I'm so damned mentally fried now. Feels just like if I had spent all day fighting with some multi-threading Apple framework bug and failing to fix it.
I spent hours trying to get my ancient Apple Watch to pair with Xcode before giving up and hate ordering a new watch from Amazon.
I bought a new Max!

I’ve been bad.

My M1 Ultra, basically idle other than playing Music, 2 days after 27 install. So much for Apple fixing this stuff. If anything it seems worse now because at least 26 only spun the efficiency cores with this crap, 27 is running this stuff on my good cores.

Thankfully the new Apple versioning system fixes the old problem where 27.0 came before 27.1, 27.1 came before 27.2, and the numbers actually meant something.
Oh hello beautiful where have you been all my life? Finally a bottle that might last me more than a couple of weeks.

Thinking of breaking out the table saw for a quick little project. 🙏 for my fingers.
So much retro.

Since computer hardware is basically unaffordable I've started looking more into headphone/audio stuff. This Schiit bundle is kind of tempting…
I kind of keep forgetting this was a thing I added in, its pretty neat I just need to figure out a good way to use it.
I added a skill, command line interface and MCP, different LLMs seem to pick different ways to connect, though you can also tell them which to use.

Insanity pricing, these are all more than when they are new.

What even are version numbers anymore? Is that the 20186 featured update? Some random hex code or maybe it’s a git hash?

I got this under desk rotatable cup holder and now feel at least 12% more productive.

LOL maybe time to hit up Microcenter.

I had Kitchen Nightmares playing as background noise and Google Gemini somehow activated and started saying how it can't help me with personal issues and offering to contact professional help, so now I'm half expecting a wellness check from the police.
Just got an offer to send me a 2FA code via mail. Not e-mail, USPS mail. Not going to lie, I'm kind of curious to try it.

Playing with Fable today. Damn thing feels overly aggressive. I asked it to add a few types to an enum definition and it starts going all over the place trying to implement stuff. Pretty close to over 1/2 of the stuff I ask it to do I have to stop it and re-focus on a much smaller subset of changes. I hope it gets better or I'm going back to Opus.

Describe an Extension: “OK Siri, disable all ads on all websites”
Turns out I always end up making one of two meals for WWDC Keynote. Either Chicken Wings or Fajita. I really should plan this better and come up with a meaning for each meal vs what's expected for WWDC.
I guess the question is, is this year a Chicken Wing or Fajita WWDC?
I won an auction for the OWC “Go" dock for like $5 and it actually shipped. This is by far the largest dock I think I've ever seen. Mac Mini for scale, LOLs.

Disclaimer: I know its a first world problem but WTH do you expect from me.
As of yesterday I have 3 wired internet connections, they all suck in different ways.
Cable Connection: 1.25Gb down, feels like 0 up. Randomly disconnects multiple times throughout the day for a few seconds at a time. Fiber 1: 1Gb symmetrical, crap IPV6, some backend routes are congested as hell and any lightning fries the OTN. Fiber 2: 2Gb symmetrical, no IPV6 at all, so many levels of Nat I can't even count them.
If you are a passive investor you might want to read up on the goofy rules that are going to force massive purchases of SpaceX once it goes public for certain index funds. Great news if you own SpaceX now, not so great if you want to avoid anything Elon.
Pet Peeve: Mac apps that require updates on almost all launches. This isn't an LLM only thing, but has accelerated considerably now.
This is NOT fine.

AAPL @ $300 next week?
Pet peeve, local business websites with “Schedule Appointment”/“Contact Us" forms that end up getting ignored. Literally worse than not having anything.
Great now I have to do the “which AI company is less evil" math again.
Bahahaha

Maybe Apple totally “blowing" AI might be a good thing?

Broke this out for the first time in a while, they really should ship with closed back headphones.

Et tu, Starbucks?

Our model is so good, it's not safe to release, yet. Has to be one of the greatest AI marketing stunts ever.
ObjC is so hard to read!!! Meanwhile…

OK this is kind of cool.

8GB of RAM, 2/4 core CPU, no thunderbolt, nerfed display out, 256GB of storage, nerfed LCD. I mean the price is great but damn feels like a few too many corners were cut.
Just finished some optimization work that should improve scrolling and re-sizing performance. Probably a good excuse to buy a 120Hz Studio Display, but no way I'm spending $3k+ for a 27" monitor and guessing 120Hz isn't enough to notice the difference…
When did browsing the web become a game of Whac-A-Mole? I don’t want your app, I don’t give a crap about cookies, I don’t want to chat with your AI.

Probably a price mistake, but what if it isn’t?

My ZTE USB -> LTE randomly died recently after about 5 years of being pretty reliable. Anyone have a link to one currently available that works with pfSense (and hopefully pretty cheap)?
Yep, she's my daughter alright.

Every time I hit Microcenter I get mournful for the time when I could also hit up Fry’s on the way there. 😢
PS Portal quick review. Latency + picture quality is good for local games. Battery life seems really good. Could use an OLED screen. Lack of Bluetooth audio is ridiculously annoying. Controls feel a little plasticky but otherwise good. Not sure if I’ll keep it but seems a lot better than initial reviews.
I was wondering why this crappy Nest doorbell never actually showed video once the subscription expired. I thought it was some network issue or bug with the Nest app, but nope it’s apparently by design. Pretty sure this used to be 24 hour history + video playback.

Device request: Universal remote device pre-programmed to do nothing but issue commands to disable motion smoothing on TVs in waiting rooms.
Wearing this, mostly because I forget where my Tapbots hoodies are.

Poor endcap deserves better. Also $27 that’s a lot to spend on your least favorite relative.

My personal car is one generation too old for connected features and now I may never get rid of it.

After much research it seems like the best medical insurance plan for this year for me & the wife is to jump on the nearest iceberg.
I think we’re one or two usb charger/battery pack generations away from having one with app support. Current models have screens and super complex charging power matrices. App with port power control has to be next.

I promised I won't make (too much) fun of anyone who answers yes. But does anyone with an original Vision Pro plan to buy the new one or does anyone who never bought one plan to buy it now? Curious as to why.
I had at least 3 screenfuls of these.

At the rate things are going, I expect an "Apple provides government with list of users who downloaded ICEBlock app" headline in a few more weeks. I’m feeling embarrassed for them.
