This acts as a tight connection between the actual user and how other people can identify them, preventing any relay server from giving another user their identifier by unbinding the two. Keys can be lost and keys can be compromised and assuming such an occasion were to happen, clients have nobody to go to for help, very much like with Bitcoin.
